Dos X's, O-Dead and Q-Dead. Buh-Bye.

I almost have to go with the non-event here. Despite outward cheering by the 1600 Crew over the demise of these two infamous Saddam offspring (yes, there are more, just not as involved in the government...if they had any involvment at all). I imagine that there's a place set in whatever hell awaits people like these two trolls. Over at Kos, there's a pretty good analysis of their deaths and why it's a non-event, at least to the long-term stability of the country. Steve Gilliard:

Yes it is possible that Saddam's murderous, heinous sons got killed in a four hour long fire fight, but then again, given the firepower arrayed against them, the idea that they lived for four hours in such a hailstorm of fire is dubious.
...
Who knows? Personally, I'd rather hear about a four hour firefight which killed Osama Bin Laden, but if these guys are dead, they died a lot better than the thousands of people they personally tortured. Of course, this will do little to end the war, since Saddam is no longer the issue and hasn't been since April 9th.
...
These guys were running for their lives. They weren't directing guerrilla operations. They were trying to hop the border or something. They, despite their henious nature, were not a direct threat to US forces. Yes, sending them to hell is not a bad thing, but it is less relevant than people will make it. They didn't control much, if anything, at this point.
Glad they're gone. I too will wait to drink a final toast to their departure when the DNA evidence is out...Trust but Verify seems pretty operative here.

Comments:

You won't have to wait long for your drink, NBC just reported that the video of the six hour gunfight and photos of the trophie, er ah, corpses are to be televised soon, according to NBC.

Man... you guys just kill me!

"Despite outward cheering by the 1600 crew."

I'm assuming you're referring to the White House here... despite the fact that only the White House Press Secretary has even commented on the situation, and I didn't see any outward cheering... but whatever.

Then... liberals take on the attitude of, "hey... it may not be true... and even if it is... it's no big deal."

It's just killing some liberals that any good news is coming out of Iraq. So many liberals delight in the bad news... and hope that they can begin questioning the President on more of it. When good news comes around, they'll search the for the cloud among the silver lining... before the finally realize that sometimes, there is no cloud.

CJ, if.... IF......IF...the daily murder of a GI or two stops, then the deaths were worth every billion dollars they cost.

But, if there's another GI capped tomorrow (today now,) or the day after, and the day after that, etc, etc, ad infinitum nauseamque, then it seems to my poor, dazed, drug-addled liberal mind that killing a figurehead doesn't kill the serpent.

Now, your poor, dazed, Faux News-addled mind doesn't seem to understand this. And, like your hero, Incurious George, (tip of the hat to the Dem Vet) you don't seem to have any military experience to make you wonder how 4 guys with hand weapons could hold off a reinforced infantry company (over 200 men, according to CENTCOM,) supported by what was reported as armor and air assets.

I haven't seen the piccies yet, but I understand they shot the shit out of that villa. I've seen what 5.56mm NATO ball does to masonry, and 4 (or 6) hours of fighting is a LOT of ammo, and a LOT of masonry converted to dust.

I have to admit I'm astounded. And where did tose 4 guys get the ammo to hold off all those assets amd infantry? It takes a LOT of ammo to shoot back for 4 hours. I'm here to tell you it's not just 'stick your head up and pop off a round through a window.'

So, I'm real anxious to hear the after action report.

Copied this from the Daily Kos website.

Even as the administration and its backers brag about the deaths of Saddam's sons, claiming it signals the coming end of the war, attacks on our soldiers continue unabated. Almost ignored by the media (which is focusing on the Uday and Qusay deaths), are the latest allied deaths in Iraq: a soldier of the 101st in Mosul (in an attack that also wounded seven others), a soldier of the 3rd ACR in Ar Ramadi (in an attack that also wounded two more), and a Brit who died after collapsing during a training run.

That's five allied deaths, 13 wounded in the past two days. Four of them from hostile action (as though the Brit's death is any less meaningful).

Oh no!!!!

But...but...but... CJ...
you said the killing of the two Hussein boys was good news.
