Perceptive to a fault

Nothing gets by our friends at Faux News, here's a lead headline (I'm sure the author will get a tongue-lashing, it's off-message for Faux)

U.S. Military: Terrorism No. 1 Threat in Iraq

Terrorism is the biggest threat to Iraqis and coalition forces working to rebuild the country, particularly in regions where support for deposed leader Saddam Hussein was the strongest, U.S. military officials said Thursday.
...
"It's clearly a problem for us because of the sophistication of the attacks and because of their tactics to go after Iraqis," Gen. John Abizaid, who is in charge of U.S. Central Command, said during a Pentagon briefing.
...
"They are clearly a problem for us because of the sophistication of their attacks and because of what I would call their tactics to go after Iraqis," he said.

"Clearly, they're going after Iraqis that are cooperating with us. They're going after soft targets of the international community. They're still seeking to inflict casualties upon the United States."

How long before the 1600 Crew gets tired of Abzaid telling the truth and cans him too?

This must be the guerilla war that Auntie Donnie said didn't exist and would not happen. How long before the radical Islamists move the fight from Iraq, all because of the PNAC pipedreams...and we are all sorrier than sorry for their "leadership"?

Jo,
Here is something Tom Burka just posted at his site.

Bush to Declare War On Iraq
Today President Bush said the situation in Iraq had deteriorated to the point where he had no choice "but to declare war on that country."

"I've just become aware that good people are dying out there. Terrorists run rampant, killing people, blowing up oil pipelines, wreaking havoc, maybe just plain reaking. They've got to be stopped."

Bush said that he had recently learned that since May 1, 2003, Iraq has become the "number one nexus of the terrorist activities in the world," and he called it "the nexus of the axis of evil," speaking from his ranch in Texas.

He said that it was a difficult decision but he had "no choice" given the state of the country at this time.

"Whoever is running that country has allowed it to turn into a hornet's nest that threatens the stability of the Middle East, and with it, the safety and security of the United States, and of the world."

Shouldn't have to mention it but the above is satire, not an actual Bushism.

I know. Sometimes I confuse myself.

General Abizaid stood beside Rummy at a news conference yesterday. Rummy said the U.S. has enough troops in Iraq and General Abizaid agrees with him, "Isn't that right, General?" The audience snickered and laughed at this puppet show as the General eventually responded somewhat in the affirmative. The General then went on to volunteer that if there were too many troops in Iraq, that would create problems for the troops. There were (additional) stars in the General's eyes as he obviously pleased Rummy.

Whenever I read the accounts of Iraqi attacks, I can't help thinking "what would ordinary Americans be doing if the US were occupied by a foreign power?".

I don't think the answer would be "just go along with it"

So why should the iraqi's be any different?
