Just a Rant...

Is it just me, or should we men not involved in a personal way just STFU about the whole issue of abortion? Personal way = your significant other is involved in the procedure and you are some percentage of the decision-making process.

Abortion has become the Christo-Fascist hot-button issue of the last 30 years. The religio-wingnuts for some reason, and I can't figure it out want to send women back to back-alley abortionists to get this procedure done. Then lock up everyone who has it "done" or "does" it. Reproductive rights...someone elses problem. Suddenly not pregnant? Suddenly eligible for Prosecution. Wife/Mom/Sister dies in an unlicensed, unregulated, unsanitary butcher shop. Too bad, they were not holy enough to be brave and carry that unborn, unwanted life in to the world. Tough shit...oh, and if they live, we'll arrest'em.

It's not women writing these laws. although many are involved in this lunacy. It's maniacally raving men like Rick "dead fetus" Santorum, who really think that (his interpretation of) great church law is public policy so horrific, it will take us back to midevil times. Thanks man-on-dog.

Actually, I think the issue is more one of some patriarchical (patriarchal?) idea that women are property and they have no right to decide what happens to their own bodies. It's all about worshipping that good ole Sacred Phallus. You know, the one we used to worship as the God of War.

If you notice, the most strident male anti-aborionists are either single, allegedly celibate bible-thumpers, or old rich white men well past the prime for child-making, let alone child-rearing. I may have the wrong take on all this, but I'm not at all clear that the Invisible Cloud Being would want me making decisions about some complete stranger's body.

Seems to me that the Xtian Fascists have this issue about sex, what with its being the Original Sin and all. Maybe it's got something to do with their inability to "function".

But I have noticed they only seem to care about that fetus until it's born. After that, fuck it, it's on its own. They'll spend millions to dictate what women are allowed to do with their bodies, but not one red penny to help that unwanted child after it's born.

And, if that baby falls into the poverty trap, and ends up committing a crime in order to stay alive, then suddenly life isn't quite so important to them. They can't get that poor little shit strapped down in Ole SParky fast enough, can they?

Bingeaux! You're exactly on the mark here.

Remember the wise woman who once pointed out: "If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament."

Men are 50% of humanity (well, 49%). It take a man to get a woman pregnant, and as a woman I say yes, they should be involved.

Tell you what: Andrew Sullivan should stick his head out of what he would never stick his pecker into, and keep quiet on the subject.

Oh Jebus Lurch, you are so, so right. I'd be willing to bet if anti-choicers gave one tenth of a shit for the fetus after it's born as they do before, we'd experience the death of modern conservatism.

Sajah, you're right, and I was wrong insofar as I wasn't specific enough. I'd like to have some input into decision making if that was my little contribution to posterity there that we're talking about.

But I don't see me having any right to tell you and Mr. Sajah what to do about your population explosion. Just lemme know whether to send blue or pink booties, OK?

Errr..l.umph....that was me up there, just above. I made that!

Lurch,

Right, but it has nothing to do with your gender. It's a human freedom issue. If it were down to gender then Phyllis Schlafly would have the right to control my fertility. Not good.

It also makes me sick when Sullivan talks about sexual harassment, like today. Sorry for my own rant but I cannot stand this guy. Maybe it's because Raw Muscle Glutes said he enjoyed "bi scenes" in his personals ad.

Eek.

Sajah: Take this to the bank. Nothing you say against that repulsive *thing* would ever offend me. I have no issues about homosexuals. I despise liars.
