San Diego

The fires are still raging, but there are folks who need help now. Is there an organization helping? Donations should go where? Should we start something to help out?

Update, thanks for the info. Here's a link to the San Diego chapter of the Red Cross. I am usually hesitant about the ARC, because of how they 'prioritize' their money distribution, but if this is going to the local chapter, I have to assume it's not going to be used to buy stuff for their offices in DC or something.

The Red Cross always accepts disaster relief donations, and are actively providing shelter, etc. for the victims of the fires -

Donate through the local San Diego Red Cross to insure that it goes to the fire victims.

They have a link at the San Diego Union Tribune site San Diego Red Cross for this purpose.

My older brother's family lives in San Diego county. They are fine, but many of their friends have lost everything.

My old office and the bulk of my suppliers when I was in business out there in the 1980's are gone.

Sad but now we have a real life demo of what recent "image politics" have led to - FEMA is now part of the Dept of Homeland Security. Will this improve their performance? They were pretty sorry in the past. Now we have real, immediate need of their services and resources. Bush is really on the line for this one. Let's hope they measure up.

I should have been clearer. It is specifically going to the fire victims, as the local chapter has already had to deal with the national Red Cross wanting donations to be available for the general fund.

The local chapter has stated that the money collected will only be used for local victims, with no repeat of the 9-11 mess.

I made a donation using the link I found. I hope that the money goes to the victims. I'll be really really pissed if it goes back to the national ARC organization.

Thanks for the info.

The Salvation Army also has an on-line donation link for Calif. fire victims -

If the above link doesn't work, go to the Salvation Army site & follow the links.
