Something Accomplished

Going off to Baghdad for yet another tax-payer financed Photo-Op. The right thing for the wrong reasons. If this had truly been about the troops, everything would have been as it was, but no planeload of media whores would have been making the trip.

Two Hours? That's a refueling stop for a 747, long enough to top it off, get it catered, pump out the lavs and be on it's way. Oh, and have numerous photos taken with soldiers who probably wish they were getting on the plane home.

Do they feel safer in Iraq today?

This is the best possible news for an American vet on Thanksgiving Day. A man who served with honor and distinction survived, and is coming home to a woman who loves him, and was steadfastly loyal to him in the face of obscene abuse from chairborne commandos.

Contrast that news with the story of a coward who snuck into Baghdad, held a turkey platter for a photo op while surrounded by 600 Fodder Units, and then snuck out again. The whore stenographers acclaimed his bold, courageous leadership.

Didn't they have a lovely Thanksgiving dinner at 6:00 a.m.? Well that was usually when I ate my Thanksgiving dinners when I was in uniform, didn't you?

My Marine was in Iraq during the turkey photo op as I had talked to him via ICQ shortly after that was over. Next news from him was that he and his guys were headed back to the states so maybe they were covering the backside of Airforce One? Either that or he was a stowaway? ;)

Their whole departure from Iraq was odd in that he had told me during the turkey conversation that they had no idea when they were coming back, the whole subject was taboo. Seems now they will be held on base for maybe 2 weeks for counseling, physicals and all that jazz.

Before you give me a medal for loyally waiting for my Marine to return, Lurch you should know I had help.

I have an 8 year old son who worships the ground my Marine walks on. Treats him like he's the real GI Joe Action Guy, even goes so far as to wear chamo and get a Marine haircut to match. My Marine being sly, deputized the little guy into being a Jr Recon Scout assigned to Homeland Security. Promise a new video game system upon your return in exchange for regular reports via email on the homeland situation. The Jr Recon Scout practices his writing skills and the Marine has a spy in the house while he's away.

Marine's Girl, no wonder you are so loyal. Its not the Jr. Recon Scout spy in your house but rather the everyday reminder of what a savvy smart father figure your Marine is. Bravo to you and your Marine, and of course the Jr. Recon Scout!
