I don't see how you can interpret the report by his commander that there was no performance report because Bush wasn't there, as anything other than awol.

Non-veterans don't get it. I pulled two days of extra duty, lost a day of leave, and lost my off-base pass for a month because I reported back 15 minutes late from leave. I was at my assigned station at the assigned time, but I signed in at 0015 hours.

I was late because I had to take a bus back after my car self-destructed. I had bills and paper work documenting what had happened, but the Air Force did not care.

Did you see what George McGovern (whom people forget commanded many dangerous bombing missions in the European theater, with the medals to prove it) had to say?
