Unfortunately, judging from my traffic stats (and following the links), it appears several people think the "reconstructed" document is real - and I've had to issue a clarification. Still, it gets people thinking (which was the point). Looks like the TANG story has legs. Finally!

They come off a line printer which has that sans serif all uppercase print. AF typewriters used courier fonts.

You have to go to a duty officer when you show up at a new base and your name, serial number, and order number are entered into a bound ledger. Your appearance is then noted on the unit Daily Report.

When you go to a drill you sign in to get credit. There is a report of the drill that includes those who attended.

It is a tired, but true, comment that the aircraft doesn't take off until the weight of the paperwork equals the weight of the airplane.

I was in the Air Force and an Aircrew Member from 1966 to 1974. The records were computerized and you left a trail of paper that weighed more than you did every four years.
