Yeah, they've been doing this for a while now...front-loading scientific "research" with their "experts" on science related issues. Why? Well, we blogged on it last year...I am happy that the Union of Concerned Scientists are speaking out about it now. Hopefully it will be somthing else to beat the 1600 Crew over the head with in November. Bad Science is worse than No Science. It's Twue.

Philosophically I'd agree with you that this is yet another subject with which to bludgeon the Rethugs. Unfortunately, most Americans are so ignorant of science, the scientific method and peer review that they just wouldn't care. The first time a candidate brought this up I can just see the eyes glazing over, the slack jaws...
Despite the fact that this is probably one of the most egregiously horrid things that BushCo. has done. All the political BS can be cleaned up in an election cycle or two. The harm to the environment, to high-tech industry and medicine and to policy formulation could take generations to clean up.
Well, ShrubCo's idea of "peer review" is to have OMB vet scientific reports. I kid you not.
As if a bunch of bean-counters know squat about scientific issues. It's just another delay/obfuscate/down-the-memory-hole tactic for inconvenient facts.
