The world watches, the 1600 Crew fiddles

So the Pakistanis are going to "route" the Taliban and Al-Qaida from the mountainous regions of Pakistan. Right. That makes it like what, two years too late? Or, pardon me, just in time for the November elections?

Pakistan is preparing for a major military offensive against Taliban and Al Qaeda forces along its border with Afghanistan in the next several weeks, Pakistani government officials said this weekend.

The operation may be the first act of a violent, and potentially pivotal, spring season along the mountainous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, according to Western diplomats, Pakistani military experts and American military officials.
...
Preparations for a new offensive are being made two months after Pakistan adopted a harsh, British colonial-era tactic of collective responsibility in the tribal areas.

Under this system, Pakistani officials massed troops in South Waziristan and handed tribal leaders a list of Pakistani men suspected of sheltering Qaeda members. If the tribe did not hand over the men, the entire tribe would be punished. The houses of the wanted men would be destroyed, state spending in the area would be cut and, if necessary, tribal members would be detained until the men surrendered.

So either Musharraf was threatened with losing aid and support, or (let me get my tin-foil hat out) they are looking for that October Bin Laden surprise capture thing to go down.

Yep, British tactics, and we all remember how successful those tactics were. For those who have seen "Kim", "Gunga Din", and "King of the Khyber Rifles", that wasn't really what happened. The first half of the "Charge of the Light Brigade" was closer to the truth.

There isn't enough turmoil in the region, so they're going to start a civil war in Pakistan.

I want OBL as much as anyone, but do we want a known nuclear power under the control of Islamic extremists?

It's nice of us to give OBL plenty of notice as to what our plans are in the next few months.

Why doesn't Bush just hire a plane to get Osama out of Pakasktan and moved to another country before the FBI can question him? We could ground all other planes to make it even easier.

I feel so much safer with such a close friend of the Bin Laden family in the White House.

Very nice post, Jo!

Actually, it's 889 days so far - considerably more than two years, and not nearly as long as their last October surprise in 1980...

I'm so glad that these tinfoil hats are starting to have a little style. They used to be only one style, and one size fits all. But now they seem to be seen in every nook and cranny. I've even seem some that change colors when the sunlight hits them...

You got to laugh - we got Howdy Doody in the White House doing all those craaazy things... Robin Williams twenty years ago

Given the close ties between the Pakistani intelligence services and the Taliban, OBL will know know more about our plans than we do.

OBL is on tatoonie training his nephews to be jedis to kill the evil empire.

The Saudis okayed the operation, we would have gone there already if it was not for us leveraging Saudi Oil better by taking out their main competitor in Iraq.

Make no mistake about it Bush takes orders very well. Albright already said we have OBL. GPS let us watch everything, they relaxed our presence there just enough to get our new INTEL insertions on the trail fast. Have this feeling that somehow this was already anticipated and some new surprise will unfold as a result.

India is our new outsource INTEL location for many gov't agencies, 'spose they have no people in deep enough cover there, with a sizeable Muslim presence, to get dibbies on America? Perhaps we are countering this with false leads.

Someone is moving the pawns to necessary places. Let's see how it goes.
