Abstaining from reality

Seems the republicans, in a effort to pander even more (if that's possible) to the wacko christo-fascist wing of the party, are pushing that Abstinence Edu-macation thing again. Yeah. I guess that since they are less-than-human, the concept of human nature (wanna have sex!?) just goes --zoom-- right over their pointed little heads.

Some lawmakers "insist that abstinence-only education is the solution to teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases because abstinence works each time," Waxman said. "Well, the evidence, however, indicates that abstinence-only education works rarely, if at all."

Responded Rep. Jo Ann Davis, R-Va.: "This is not about social ideology, or religious ideology. It's about informing women. ... And truly, the only way to be protected is abstinence. That's not ideology — it's fact."

Yeah, and it's a fact that the earth goes around the sun, but it was the religious wackos who insisted otherwise...and look how wrong they were then. I guess that common sense and an understanding of the 'facts of life and nature' have escaped them for generations...maybe it's a genetic thing. Or perhaps it's just ignorance. Or both.

There's a saying I remember from my salad days when I was asked to be patient and wait: "Abstinence makes the heart grow fonder - FOR SOMEONE ELSE!"

Let them preach Abstinence...maybe that way Repugs won't replicate and then die out....oh, wait...maybe THEN they'll think the endangered species act is worth saving...

Yes, abstinence is the absolutely best way to avoid STDs and pregnancy. But let's say you have the moral fiber of Neil Bush, isn't it nice to have a back-up plan?

Just because you don't like reality doesn't mean reality will ignore you.

This is part of a mind-set that admits only one possible plan for any situation. When that plan fails they have nothing to fall back on.

If the world was binary, programmers could be sociologists and every thing would work according to the code.

Who was it that put up the idea of abstinence-only driver training? Since seat-belts don't prevent accidents, don't guarantee no one gets killed if the car goes under a truck, don't do anything about venereal disease ... etc., etc., etbloodyc.,

the obvious answer is to abstain from driving until you're married.

Then drive without seatbelts.

Right?
