Soldiers loyal to a local commander shot and killed Afghanistan's aviation minister Sunday in the western city of Herat, setting off a big gunbattle in which as many as 100 people died vicious factional fighting, the commander told The Associated Press.
In Kabul, President Hamid Karzai's Cabinet convened in emergency session after the killing of minister Mirwais Sadiq -- a son of Herat's powerful governor -- and dispatched extra troops to try to calm the city.

Karzai's first civil aviation minister, Abdul Rahman, was assassinated Feb. 14, 2002, at Kabul's airport, in circumstances that remain unclear. Gunmen shot and killed Vice President Abdul Qadir in the capital on July 6, 2002.
Both of those killings remain unsolved.
As we have learned from the snippets of Richard Clarke's new book, the NeoCons were pushing to bomb the "better targets" in Iraq even with the evidence of Talib and old Bush Family Friend and bin Laden family scion, Osama's involvment in the 9/11 attacks. Afghanistan?

Now they have an excuse to stage another 9-11 on that side of the globe... a gift from Afghanistan oil interests/terrorists???
My original thought was to see if we make a SATO (South Asia Treaty Org) along the lines of Nato, using the new money ties to India we have, and the oil interests Cheney has in the Afghan pipeline and -stans, along with Indonesia and the Rupert Aussie lands he could very well dominate the future of the new first world nations there.
Papa Bush already bought Global Crossing's Asia holdings for Carlysle... and the trade status given Pakis and India, 2 places which the Cheney Unocal pipeline goes are vested in the groups.
I didn't wish to inspire anyone with the plans but they have been underway for a while, you wann really see who is behind all of this follow the money trail right now from the get-go before many know about it.
Most international chamber of commerce groups will advertise such outright, except for the Tawain one which took its site down after I posted it on 3 major media sites and got a lot of replies.
A SATO , much like NATO, is being formed, and to keep the EU in line they have sponsored counterinsurgency in the Yugoslav republics once more. In return for us being the big brother guardians of goodness in SE Europe, we'll get free reign of middle south Asia with corporate backing.
SATO will probably feature Vietnam, each of the countries around it,India, Pakis, Afghans, and the oil russia-stans.
We can then play those countries against the North Korea problem and Putin's re-emerging power.
In the meantime we help pkis and India with weapons. We are building a base in pakistan as well. I wanted to post that we would do this but the idea of inspiring these notions would not be something to take credit for...
Nephew is coming from Iraq in another day! He'll be at a base for while in the states , but we look forward to having him home!No more south of Bagdhad worries for him soon. :)
