A Fraying Coalition?

No on likes to be lied to. Especially those who are about to (or have) sent their loved ones into danger. The 1600 Crew knowing that, made especially convincing lies and deals with countries and their leaders who were friendly to them, promising them money and maybe even nicknames if they would only join the Coalition of the Bought. Not counting on any actual democracy in action ever happening to rear its ugly head, one of the coalition members went had an election. And surprise, surprinse they're going to go home. Because their new leader promised them that he would do just that if elected.

Spain's new Socialist prime minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, keeping a firm campaign promise, announced Sunday that he was ordering Spanish troops to leave Iraq "as soon as possible."

Just 24 hours after he was sworn in, Mr. Zapatero said he had ordered Defense Minister José Bono to "do what is necessary" for the Spanish troops to return home in the shortest possible time.

Spain leaving is just the tip of the iceberg, or perhaps a more apt analogy would be the first pebble in the avalanche. Kos has a great round-up of how the coalition of the bought might look soon. If Blair falls, how far behind will Great Britain be? Not real far, I suspect.

99 dead Marine and soldiers already this month alone. How many more is it going to take before Duh-W is bounced out of the White House?

Marine's Girl, sad to say, other than service member's families, the casualties just haven't had as much public impact as they should.

Someone needs to sneak a camcorder into Dover AFB.

And the cheese stands alone. Because the cheese is limberger and it stinks. Cheesy appointed president, cheesy result.

I understand, from Atrios' blog, that there is now a $100 million contract for security forces to guard the Green Zone. Is this the future for the US? Incompetent ventures in nation-building carried out entirely by hired guns?

The level of incompetence and thievery of this administration is beyong belief. Soon the cheese will stand alone, a naked cheese that has no clothes. Okay, the metaphors are mixed, but you get the idea.

I'm glad the new Spanish leader had the cajones to do this so quickly. A political leader with a spine, how refreshing.

I wonder what the Italians and Japanese think about this.

The man said he would do if the whole thing was not handed over to the UN or NATO. There's no talk of doing that, so he's out of there. The Spanish are near Najaf with the Poles and the Central Americans. The area is hot and the Spanish have lost 11 out of 1300 already.

This was supposed to be peace keeping, not a "crusade".

Remember, NATO including the French and Germans have troops in Afghanistan looking for Osama bin "Forgotten". They are not talking about withdrawing from the real "War on Terror".

this couldn't come at a worse time, even though the Spanish PM said they were leaving.

with the closing of parts of two major supply routes, we may have just lost the ability to effectively resupply the 'Dad.

armies run on fuel, food and ammo. if we cannot effectively secure our own supply lines, this is gonna do downhill faster than anyone thought.

the green zone will turn into Khe San or Chosin Reservoir right quick.

Oh, don't worry abotu the Green Zone. There's a $100 million dolar contract out now for security for the Green Zone.

They don't call it "Green" because it's a big ecology area, do they?

Meanwhile, I just heard ont he radio that we hit 100 dead in April. How long, America? How long, my fellow Americans? When will the scales fall from your eyes? When will you see the massive ignorance and incompetence of this administration and boot them out? They should be booted NOW, not in November.

And America answers me with silence. Strong as my support for Kerry has been for a long time, I think I may be more Kucinich in my soul. Ah Dennis, we hardly knew ye.
