Now, really, how many US-installed rulers can you name who have given up power voluntarily? You're only allowed to use one hand and this is not a trick question...
My bet, Allawi is still there, we have more troops for 'security' and it's a freaking mess no matter who wins in November. History does indeed repeat itself...and we're getting to learn that

Soon as Allawi took over assasssinationsa went haywire. Saddam is polling better than Bush there watch them off his ass since he is a Rummy fingerpointer.
It is funny Chalabi is letting him have a say, knowing he is done for and that his words will get Bush out of Iraq and allow him to try and take over.
Iran/Iraq/Arabia is his plan, each has Shi'ia in it. Bush played right into his hand.

Slightly OT:
A perceptive writer on one of the blogs pointed out the classic case of the Dog That Didn't Bark: The (non)reporting in today's NYT about how little info has come out of Saddam since he's been captured.
The point skimmed over in the article -- apparently Saddam has consistently been telling his interrogators that: a) No, I didn't have any WMD,and; 2) No, there is no connect between me and OBL, I couldn't pick the dude out of a lineup.
It's a safe bet that if he'd been waterboarded into giving a "Yes" response to either one of those questions, we'd have been hearing about it from every Dear Leader/RNC/wingnut operation out there 24/7 in the Fair, Balanced and Unafraid manner so characteristic of those outlets.
This is a point that hopefully our side of Upper Blogistan will start hammering on until the SCLM is shamed into saying something about it.
