Sandy's Sock, Wolfies Mouth

I'm taking no position one way or another on the whole Sandy Berger thing...I wish that the SCLM was this upset about Valerie Plame being "outed". For a better analysis than I could do right now, go check out Functional Ambivalent's take on the whole thing.

Tempest. Teapot. Poll numbers down? Pimp a Dem. Original...oh, and how is the Valerie Plame investigation going, anyhow?

Berger was simply preserving evidence to prevent it from getting "disappeared" like Dumbya's military records.

I would like to make a comment on this, having worked the better part of my life in the "Classified" Navy section of electronics and crypto... I have handled a great deal of classified materials, made manual changes, done inventories and burned classified materials... Everything that I ever did in the vault, or outside whenever I installed a key card, I had to sign out for that puppy... When you made manual changes, you entered on the log for the manual the pages you removed with the page # and revision noted... After you finished you made a page count/verification and noted any damage, marks, etc and put this into the log.

Never in my 20+ years in the US Navy did I ever remove anything from a secure area to an insecure area without having received permission..

It's possible that Mr. Burger might have mixed up some classified papers with his non classified things, as he apparently had his personal briefcase in the same room.. Perhaps I have been retired too long.... In my days, you would not have been allowed to carry anything like that into the area where you dealing with classified materials of any nature... I know what would have happened to myself, and can imagine what might have happened to you had you taken message traffic out of a secure space when you had the duty officer and were required to do those mildly unpleasant duties of normal Navy life... Sorry, but if you are a pro, working in a field that has grave responsibilities if you mess up, and, there is NO doubt that he did mess up... I am not saying "off with his head", I am saying that by the very fact that he was the "Top Dawg", of the Security section of the government and still handling classified materials, He should be held accountable. The same as you and I would have been in our time...

At least Berger did not stuff them into his crotch like ace pilot (NG) Bush Jr. his socks on his carrier landing on the first leg of his "Mission Accomplished" tour. By the way, is that tour over?

I agree Shag. I also believe that it could have been a distraction at the time, and he mixed up some papers... As far as our fearless chimpanzee, he's such a dweeb that had he not been dressed by "unca Karl" he would have had the cod piece on backwards looking like a genuine butt plug for the world's greatest living asshole! Fuck the Bushes! They have done nothing for any of us who have served.. Between the Reagans and the Bushes, I pretty well retired to no med bennies what so ever.... Lucky that I became a French National in the 80's as we're covered under the French Social Security Policy... I retired in 1974 and don't know if I would want to be part of the "New Navy" When I joined everyone was talking about the "new" UCMJ that we were getting used to... Some wanted to return to the "old" Rocks and Shoals that had been the Navy law for many years... I thought that discipline was excellent, but having served on 2 Cruisers (USS Helena and USS St. Paul)
That were flagships for Com7thFlt, and being the ET that was responsible for his communications equipment I never doubted nor tested the limits for an enlisted man...

The old Navy treated me well, I walked out after 20 years as an excellent Electronics Technician and a Chief Petty Officer.. I served on "Gators", "Tin Cans" Cruisers, and have worked on just about every class of Ship/Vessel that the Navy Had from 1940 through the late 70's... I was a MOTU Technician, and a CETA after I retired out...

Looking back, I think that the Navy and I both got a really good deal for 20 years...
