Before 9/11 Rudy Giuliani was set to fade into history as just another New York City mayor...maybe a run for Governor or Senator, but his likeability was not that overwhelming from what I have heard. Then came 9/11 and he stood up and was the voice of a hurting city, and darling of the nation. But his time has passed...he's still the darling of the republican faithful for his performance in the aftermath of the attacks, but that was then, this is now.
The terrorist attack "is the single most significant event that has happened in the last four years, and is maybe one of the most important events in our history," Mr. Giuliani said in a telephone interview. "So it has to be an issue in the election. Not discussing it would be like conducting an election for Abraham Lincoln and not discussing the Civil War."
The biggest issue facing Rudy and the 1600 Crew is how they pissed away all the Global good will we had following the attacks; how we have essentially "walked away" from Afghanistan, committing money, men and materiel to the Mess in Mesopotamia; how Preznit Bidness With bin Ladens allowed Osama to escape after declaring him "Public Enemy #1" and then said he "didn't matter".
I doubt Rudy or any speaker at the RNC will speak to those issues, after all the Economy has turned the corner, Rich People would just avoid taxes anyway, and Saddam was a Very Bad Man...and Fearless Leader traded his flight suit in for a mail bag and a game of water polo.

Comments:
Rudy will "comb-over" the issues that should be discussed as he works to continue building his "revolving door" finances. But at some point, Rudy must look in the mirror and be reminded of his "comb-over" and realize that it is obvious to every one.

Maybe someone at the RNC will ask Rudy where he stands on gay marriage. Didn't he stay with a gay couple after his wife kicked him out for having an affair?
Shoot, I should really find a citation before posting such a scurrilous rumor as that.
bald, lisping, divorced, catholic new yorker. that's what i call a dim republican future.

Jo,
Before 9/11, Giuliani's likeability was DEFINITELY not overwhelming. We'd had enough about his personal life, his jihad against hot dog vendors, etc., to last a generation.
Rudy is cashing in now, on the rest of our misery. "Giuliani Partners" or whatever its called has its little tendrils into "security consulting" and "toxic cleanup" (read "anthrax"-- like the American Media building in Boca).
St. Rudy is raking in so much money thanks to the Republican machine, there seems little reason for him to consider going back into politics, let alone running for something he might lose.
