Oh, come on. Being in a war meant that Kerry got all f***ed up in the head- he's simply not a stable, calm rational man able to make reasonable decisions because he managed to AVOID actual combat, like say, our current Presient and Vice-President.

The depths the Bushmen are willing to go to is staggering--they now try to demean the very value of military decorations to score cheap short term political points-- this should really be causing an uprising among the in-service and veterans' set (and I fear it is not).

In plain English, nothing is sacred to these guys, and they don't care who they burn to stay in power, or what the cost.

What's amazing, of course, is that with these outrageous swift-boat swifty attacks, they are missing a more legitimate shot at Kerry (i.e. why was such a decisive and courageous warrior such a political ass coverer when he got to the senate?) I don't know how any vet who has sucked mud and hugged the ground during combat could demean anyone elses service. What happens when the lead flies is between the individual soldier and his Creator. Perhaps the culmination of the SEALORDS campaign was inclusion of US and Vietnamese naval forces in the incursion into Cambodia to finally take the interdiction efforts of the allies directly to the source of the movement of arms, material and troops into the southern areas of Vietnam. The total Cambodian operation was authorized by President Nixon and carried out starting in May of 1970. The naval part of this operation was known as Tran Hang Dao XI and had the goal of clearing the Mekong River all the way to Phnom Penh and to cut the supply line near the Cambodian town of Neak Loeang. This was carried out with great success, as was the entire Cambodian incursion, halting infiltration activities from this region until political pressure in the United States forced an end to the operation.

As someone already noted, RAV stands for "restricted availability". This was a term used to denote maintenance performed on a ship alongside the pier (as opposed to a shipyard). The work was generally done by a combination of ship's force, master ship repair contractors, and "DATC" (Development and Training Center) later known as SIMA (Ship Intermediate Maintenance Center).

Did you know that in order to receive a purple heart the "wound must have been TREATED by a medical officer. Nothing I read indicates that he required such treatment. There is a difference between the Officer performing treatment and signing off on treatment that was performed by say a corpsman. And how about the back pedaling on his "seared" in his memory time in Cambodia. Or, the recent withdrawel by the Kerry crowd of acknowledging the validity of his first pruple heart because the wound was self inflicted ...whil NOT being under fire!!!
