The closer it gets to the 30th, and the Christian-Coalition Humpfest in NYC where they'll annoint their Tax-Cut Messiah, the more I've been thinking about how any act of civil disobedience which involves police, mace and handcuffs will be used by the republi-clones to attempt to tar Kerry with a bad rap.
Mr. Bush's advisers said they were girding for the most extensive street demonstrations at any political convention since the Democrats nominated Hubert H. Humphrey in Chicago in 1968. But in contrast to that convention, which was severely undermined by televised displays of street rioting, Republicans said they would seek to turn any disruptions to their advantage, by portraying protests by even independent activists as Democratic-sanctioned displays of disrespect for a sitting president.
The more I think about it, the more I wish that the demonstrators in NY would do something like some of the silent vigils that went on during the Vietnam War. Suppose that every protestor had an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper with either the name of an Iraqi killed in the war, a person who has been thrown into unemployment by the 1600 Crew's economic policies or the name of a soldier killed/wounded in Iraq on it.
No Violence, No Shouting, No being adversarial, just a silent protest of the failed policies of this group of criminals who are ruining our Republic.
Pass it on, maybe someone will listen.
Update: from that incredible blogger, Sullywatch, something like this would be most appropriate.

you would think the invisible cloud being would protect his children from the barbarian, liberal hordes. very strange, indeed.
I would like to see 1,000 people standing all over NYC wearing a poncho and a hood, standing on a box, not making a sound, every day of the Convention. Just standing there would make a LOUD statement.
No no no. You are all WRONG! The more who show up to protest, the bigger and louder and more impassioned the protest, the better. Let the whole country, let the whole world watch! Let the Thugs paint it as Democrats being disrespectful of the sitting (he sure sat for seven minutes when he was informed the country was under attack--it was like he had velcro on his ass) president. We ARE disrespectful of the sitting horse's ass. It won't lose any votes, but it will show that there are many people who are as fed up and angry and prepared to do something about it as there were during Viet Nam. There was NOTHING in the way of protests at the Dem Convention, because there was nothing to protest. There is something to protest at ThugCon, and I hope they get loud and make huge scenes. I hope the protests are massive.
And let's dust off the old chant: "The Whole World is Watching!"

I agree entirely with G.D. Frogsdong. Lets make this a loud and virulent protest. Let them know they are not welcome in NY and that the rest of the country is tired of their shit too. Massive protests cannot be ignored. If the American media is afraid to pick it up you can bet the foreign media won't be. It will also send a signal to the rest of the world that not all Americans are assholes, just those in Washington.
