He-Man Tax Haters Club

A bad idea whose time should never come.

A proposal to scrap the federal income tax and replace it with a national sales tax has received renewed attention after President Bush last month called it “an interesting idea that we ought to explore seriously.” Republican leaders in the House including Speaker Dennis Hastert and Majority Leader Tom DeLay have endorsed a sales tax bill that would do nothing less than transform the nation’s consumer economy.
Stephan Moore and Grover Norquist are even now having the Circle-Jerk of Joy in DC.
Bush has made a campaign priority out of retaining the current marginal tax rates and making them permanent. And he has proposed a series of tax changes under the banner of an “ownership society” that would continue a movement away from taxing income derived from investments such as dividends and capital gains.

The Bush administration efforts have been incremental, but they add up to progress toward a long-cherished dream of some conservative tax activists toward a tax on consumption rather than income. They argue that income taxes are highly inefficient, expensive to collect, and distort economic activity through the many subsidies and exemptions in the massive U.S. tax code.

And besides, all the wealthy benefactors of the 1600 Crew just really don't want to do more to support America than to put a BC04 sticker and a "Support Our Troops" ribbon on the SUV the nanny drives to pick up the kids. Just leave those dividends be, and you're their man...

"a tax on consumption rather than income"

Sounds great for the diet conscience members of the country. Soon we'll be able to tell a persons worth by how fat they are.

Tony Orlando and Chaka Khan?

Of course with preznit's camp Da-vid habits we have Tony Montana firing off emotional rants.

How many times has the news played a full intact sentence from GWB of late? He cannot even get his talking points out. Paranoid and out of touch. Hey Ozzie Osbourne was a guest at a banquet his (frist) year in office...

As they'll say on Mars, Karma Bitches!

Such a simple tax system might be okay if all of us were starting from the same economic situation. Otherwise, the benefit would flow to the wealthy, especially those with investment income, whether earned the old fashioned way or inherited.

Ah, why not just go ALL the way. No taxes at all, just have the government print money.

Then, after the economy is destroyed, we eat the rich.

The supply side idea basically says the problem with the economy is that rich people don't have enough money to invest.

That's just silly. Look around at all the empty factories and office complexes. Remember how, four years ago, people were paying hundreds of dollars for Internet stocks.

Even during those high-tax Clinton years, there was more than enough money to invest. What's needed is to get more money to the people who will buy stuff made in those empty factories and offices.

The national sales tax would finance the government on top of your weekly grocery bill. It's not only unfair, it's just stupid.

Just a thank you for making me laugh or at least chortle at the many insulting names you have for Bush and his band of fragging chickenhawks (Preznit Coke Lines, Wastrel, the Circle-jerk of Joy...). Or at least I'm caught between laughter and tears:
Earlier today I looked on the Iraq Coalition Casualties site: 1025 US soldiers dead and 2 hours later-just now-1029 US soldiers dead. Who knows yet about the wounded US soldiers? Who knows about the coalition dead, wounded, kidnapped, the Iraqi men, women, children dead, wounded, kidnapped.
Keep the contempt coming.

This is another stupid idea to screw everyone over who isn't a millionaire. When do the people in this country wake up, for crying out loud?

I like Satan Loves Rs idea. Make the rich fatter, then eat them.

Did you hear that a double agent brought out audio of Grover Norquist tearing into the republican governor of Ohio, Taft, at a strategy meeting?

It ends with "he should be horsewhipped." Kos has it up. I'm waiting for the remixes.

Consumption tax. No culture, just rabid consumer society. Capitalist dream.

It would increase the averag retail shop from a third to two thirds...

People living paycheck to paycheck? They could skip a meal here or there. Oh wait, folks are doing that already.

Working poor has become a reality. Welfare reform= pay a busniess to give some a third less money than the job requires, no benefits, and food stamps.

Lots of money saved there. On one side of the equation only. Someone would have to get caught with pants down to vote for it...

Gingrich voted for it, and the Clenis (tm)

Only one of them had their heart in it though, so much he needed work done on it.
