republican policy and thinking

All of the thought of the republicans can be reduced to this statement by Lyin' Dan Bartlett, a man who has never met a falsehood he would not happily support to further the fascist takeover of America:

"'I'm sure some of the best zingers he's given have been out there with a fishing pole in his hands,' Mr. Bartlett said of Mr. Bush's private preparation.
Yup, it's all about "zingers", fuck policy, fuck studying, fuck learning anything, fuck actual coherent speech. Just trot out those zingers and keep the Media Whores and Joe Sixpack in stitches. Welcome to the presidency of Delta Kappa Ignoramus.

I understand real estate in New Zealand is still pretty reasonable.

Comments:

oh good. zingers are also the favorite snack cake of this pathetic, whale-like nation. maybe that double meaning isn't lost on the foul nazis who are running this country into the ground.

Be most welcome to New Zealand!

So the fence post turtle is now a fisherman. But as a fisherman he must either fish or cut bait as there are many known unknowns and unknown knowns and unknown unknowns in the Iraq fishbowl. Perhaps a preemptive strike by a lurking monster will reel him in like the cheerleader he is.

Me and the missus are investigating Canada (closer to the grandkids than New Zealand but still more civilized than Bush Country).

Anything is more civilized than Bush country. Snake Plissken's New York was more civilized. The Deliverance Mountain Men were more civilized than Bush voters.

How anyone could even be considering voting for this despot is beyond me. And they said a totalitarian regime could never seize power here...

New Zealand is nice, but some of you left wingers need to actually stay in the United States and sort the Democrats' shit out. Otherwise the rest of us can only look forward to more Republicans fucking the world up.....

It ain't easy to emigrate - takes years to go thru the paper work, and even then supposing another country lets you in, you still have to get permission from the US Govt to leave. I am not making that up. Something to do with the IRS and proper procedure to renounce citizenship.

Unless the PATRIOT Act and similar Fatherland Security regulations have drastically changed things, my understanding is that the major difficulty in leaving the U.S. is finding another country to take you in. The procedure for renouncing your citizenship isn't particularly difficult, but it takes time because you have to physically leave the U.S., then go before a U.S. consular officer and swear out an affidavit that you're freely and voluntarily renouncing your citizenship. As a part of the procedure, there's a "mandatory" cooling off period; you'll visit the counsular officer, receive the renunciation paperwork, and then be directed to return in a week or two to complete the process.

As for the IRS, IIRC as a U.S. citizen abroad one is obligated to pay U.S. income taxes on all income derived from all sources in excess of some floor figure (in the low $80K's if I'm remembering correctly). IIRC, U.S. non-citizens are obligated for U.S. taxes on all income derived from U.S. sources, period.

I'm sure he has a cute one about when an IED only blows off one leg and half the face of a Guard member, and how he decided he didn't have time to serve. Funny.

New Zealand may become crowded. My 22 yr. son is headed that way for a few months at the end of the year. Scoping it out.

Wow. Never thought I'd see the day. ALL of the stuff Reagan scared us with (McCarthy regurged material) is coming true with AWOL in office.(wanting to leave what W.e've become)

Ironic indeed.

Too bad- Reagan had it all together in the day. Just run a Rambo movie at the 2 year point or use the Challenger incident to scare people into God-ordained ballot response and it will be all right.

Think we've seen the same thing all over. 9-11 is Bush's baby, event hough we know we know August 6th changed everything. 'The Sum of all Fears' put out during the war vote? Starting CSI-type terra shows on TV when the patriot hits floor vote?

Nonconsequential consolidation fallout.

For those moving, remember this: Proper bailout procedure- see also Bush Sr biography...

You really nailed it. This season, more than ever, the GOP strategy is nothing more than sarcasm and ridicule. They've got nothing, so they just hope they can appear cool by being snottier than the other side and trying to make Kerry an object of ridicule. It may work with some people, but not everyone, and not forever; as we saw in the first debate, Kerry came across as presidential and Bush came across as someone who doesn't know how to handle frustration.

I could hardly believe that, during the debate, Bush kept repeating the canard about Kerry taking different positions on Iraq to Kerry's face. Maybe Bush actually believes it -- maybe he's so dumb he doesn't even know that that's all a GOP marketing campaign. Rudy Giuliani seemed to be that dumb, on the Daily Show afterwards, so I guess it's possible Bush has fallen for his own party's hype. Maybe no one told him about the difference between Kerry's actual position and the GOP marketing; maybe they didn't want to confuse him. :)

Anyway, Bush obviously thought he was doing well by repeating lines like "I voted for it before I voted against it" as if it actually proved something -- in a context as serious as a presidential debate! All it proves is that Kerry once gave a clumsy explanation of why he voted yes on one bill and no on another, and Bush pulls it out as if it were a great pearl of insight into Kerry's leadership qualities. Sheesh. The whole thing was like an argument between an adult and a 12-year-old who thinks "I know you are, but what am I?" is a clever retort.
