IRR = I'm Ready, Really?

A while back I ruminated about the possibility of all of us oldies (but goodies) being called back to become cogs in the Eternal War machine...we know how to march (well, some of you anyhow, I was in the Navy after all), we know how to salute, and we know how to get shit-faced at the club on Friday night. Seems that Auntie Donnie and the Dancing Neocons want to give us that opportunity all over again.

David M. Miyasato enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1987, served three years of active duty during the first Gulf War and received an honorable discharge in 1991. He remained on inactive status for five more years, until 1996. Since then, the Kaua'i resident has married, started an auto window tinting business and this year, he and his wife had their first child.

David Miyasato is suing the Secretary of the Army for recalling him to active duty. He had been told to report to a South Carolina facility.

But in September, Miyasato received a letter from the Army recalling him to active duty and directing him to report to a military facility in South Carolina on Tuesday.

Reading the whole piece, you'll see that Miyasoto isn't objecting to having to go to Iraq on any grounds other than hey, he did all his service, Active and Reserve, including being mothballed in the IRR. The 101st Keyboard commandos maintain that reservists are being whiny about being called up...I'm thinking this is horse of a different color, but I doubt they'll figure that out.

So, with that in mind...is your discharge from the reserves framed and hanging on your I-Love-Me wall? Looks like it better be...draft? What Draft?

Ya know...

- Uncle Don can go fuck himself. I had one of my boot camp Bro's from the Corps leave today with the National Guard unit we both served in for Iraq - along with a batch of other guys I know and served with.
Russ is a Blackhawk pilot. I used to be a civil service tech at that facility. Russ is the Army 'aircraft maintenance officer' at the facility.

Semper FI, my Brother - It is now truly personal.

THE “WAR PRESIDENT” will BRING BACK THE DRAFT!

If the Bush Administration is sincere about pursuing the “Axis of Evil,” as Vice-President Cheney and Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld have said --then the DRAFT will be INEVITABLE!!!!!

We have INSUFFICIENT TROOPS, using VOLUNTEERS, to pursue the “AXIS of EVIL” policy without the Draft!

IRAN, SYRIA and NORTH KOREA are next on the LIST!!!! These Countries are large and HAVE BIGGER ARMIES!

If Bush gets elected , he is answerable to no one, because it’s his LAST TERM in office! He will bring back the Draft to Pursue his policy of “ACTIVE AGGRSSION” against TERRORISTS and TERRORIST STATES and other ‘AXIS-OF-EVIL”Countries.

Don’t forget that Bush has promised everyone that he will go after ALL THE “AXIS OF EVIL” COUNTRIES—do you doubt BUSH’S WORD? Bush has said that “HIS WORD IS HIS BOND!”

Then BUSH WILL INEVITABLY BRING BACK THE DRAFT!

How many of our sons and Daughters will die in this War?

“UNCLE GEORGE WANTS YOU!”

D. King you need to get your facts straight. Right now retention rates are higher than they have ever been in all the services. The Air Force is now using "force shaping" to lower the number in the ranks because retention is so good. People serving in the military right now including myself see right through that whole draft debate. The services suffered mightily in the early 90's because of cuts to our benefits but now with all the Bush military pay raises and benefits people actually stay in more often even with risk of going to combat. We are not the wimpering pussies begging to be saved from death and destruction like you make us out to be. Fact is we are proud to serve wherever it takes us.

Retention is so good, that recruiters are offering more bonuses in order to entice potential recruits. Retention is so good that guys in their 50s are deployed in Iraq, and the military is desperately scratching for more bodies.

Back in '95, I took my commission out behind the barn and shot it in the head when I left the Navy. I am now a former officer and gentleman. I had no idea at the time what a good move that was.

Every year my dad gets a call about his reserve status. (He's been out of the Navy since '96) At first, it was kind of funny and irritating. Now, I'm starting to wonder.
