Now, about the "Gay" part of that initiation again, Mr. Preznit...

No surprise that the Post is flogging (yet again) a story about how the 1600 Crew went after the eeeevangelical christian vote. Almost up to or past the point of breaking the law (gasp!) it would seem.

As the presidential race was heating up in June and July, a pair of leaked documents showed that the Bush-Cheney reelection campaign was urging Christian supporters to turn over their church directories and was seeking to identify "friendly congregations" in battleground states.

Those revelations produced a flurry of accusations that the Bush campaign was leading churches to violate laws against partisan activities by tax-exempt organizations, and even some of the White House's closest religious allies said the campaign had gone too far.

Last week, a day or two after the election, I read on some blog (dKos, perhaps?) that the proper way to begin dealing with republicans is the same way that they have been dealing with us for years by applying the word "Liberal" like it's some sort of word like "pederast" or something. Well, fair is fair according to the blog I read...now it's time to start labeling all republicans as homophobic bigots. That might be good short-term strategery...but the moniker does not always fit. However, it seems like a good place as a starting point for a dialog about using labels. Hmmm...a certain skinny, blond author, a Bigot. How un-surprising. Yup. Works for me.

Just a thought: if there's a "friendly congregation" in a non-battleground state, would it be true that Preznit Village Idiot was not interested in them? In fact, probably could give a shit about them at all? Seems likely.

Comments:

I've already started...it wasn't a conscious decision, I just saw an article on the renewed push on the marriage amdendment and it reminded me of the civil rights fight of the '50's/'60's (at least those were the decades when it really came to the fore) and the only arguements against giving blacks then were bigoted arguements. And the only arguement I can see for amending the Constitution in regards to gay marriage is a bigoted arguement. If the Democratic party needs a label to slam on the GOP, anti-American freedom-hating bigot is as fitting as any these days.

I've linked you...keep up the blogging, four more years of Dubya will hopefully erode even the support of his rich base.

I don't mean to rain on the parade here, but, no matter how satisfying it may feel to bash the opposition, it won't work. In order to get the end you want you have to understand the means to get there.

A short story. Someone is wearing a coat. What's the best way to get it off? The wind says I can I get it off and blows hard. The coat is clutched even tighter. So the wind blows even harder, but to no avail.

Along comes the sun and says let me try. So the sun beams down on the coat wearer. Pretty soon the coat wearer begins to warm up and stops clutching the coat. After a little while, the coat wearer starts to sweat and takes the coat off.

The problem we are faced with today is a severe lack of understanding based on what we get from the media, the very propaganda machine everyone else is getting their info.

For a fairly thorough but rough analysis of what I see happening can be found at my blog. The title is "Privatizing Social Security & what it means."

We cannot be like the monkeys picking up sticks who keep dropping one stick for another. Unless we understand the nature of the war, we cannot hope to win any battles.

One last thing to get off my chest. That word, "progessive", is going to become as dirty a word as "liberal" very quickly because it is just another word for the same mindset which is what has gotten us into this mess in the first place from back in the 1960s.

If I have to pick a single word for what ails us, it is inhumanity. I think the great bulk of the population on both sides are sick of what is happening in our country. We don't need more labels that can shift over time or be turn against anyone. What I think we are all seeking is genuine humaneness. It is the only think we have to give each other to make the world a better place. At least to me.

It looked like President Bush has been on VACATION for 4 years—he’s not living in the REAL WORLD!

Bush and Cheney have WORKED HARD AND HAVE an UNDISTINGUISHED 4 years in the Presidency!!

The Bush/Cheney Record is DISTINGUISHED OR UNDISTINGUISHED because of the great Number of MISTAKES, BUNGLINGS, MISCALCULATIONS, LOSS OF SOLDIERS, OVER-SPENDING OF TAXPAYER MONIES AND LOSS OF AMERICAN CREDIBILITY IN THE WORLD!!!

In IRAQ we LOST OVER 1,200 OF OUR BOYS AND GALS IN COMBAT, WITH ANOTHER 9,000+ WOUNDED! We spent over $140 Billion on the Iraqi War, that could have been better spend her at home for NEW ROADS, BRIGE REPAIR, TUNNEL REPAIR, PORT IMPROVEMENTS, OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS AND SECURING OUR BORDERS AGAINST TERRORISTS!!!

WHAT’S DISTINGUISHED IN LOSING 1,200 U.S. SOLDIERS IN THE IRAQI WAR THAT WAS DECLARED OVER A YEAR AGO?

WHAT’S DISTINGUISHED IN HAVING OVER 9,000 U. S. SOLDIERS WOUNDED AND CRIPPLED IN THE IRAQ WAR?

WHAT’S DISTINGUISHED IN SPENDING $140 BILLION ON THE IRAQ War and NOT ON OUR OWN COUNTRY?

WHAT’S DISTINGUISHED IN LOSING OUR AMERICAN CREDIBILITY AND PRESTIGE?

WHAT’S DISTINGUISHED IN HAVING A PRESIDENCY THAT HAS A GREAT NUMBER OF MISTAKES, BUNGLINGS, MISCALCULATIONS, LOSS OF SOLDIERS, AND OVER-SPENDING OF TAXPAYER MONIES AND LOSS OF AMERICAN CREDIBILITY IN THE WORLD?

MAYBE THE BUSH/CHENEY TEAM SHOULD WORK LESS HARD SO WE DON’T LOSE MORE OF OUR SOLDIERS,
SO WE DON’T LOSE MORE OF OUR HARD EARNED TAXPAYER MONEY
AND SO WE DON’T LOSE MORE OF OUR AMERICAN PRESTIGE AND CREDIBILITY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD !!!!

For your one-word epithet, how about "radical"? They're not conservative in any way that I can recognize. They're not trying to conserve basic rights (what are they?), the environment (think of TR), military strength (squandered), fiscal discipline (borrow and spend), the rule of law ....

I know "radical" always connoted leftists, but that was years ago. In many ways, so-called liberals are the new conservatives: we want to conserve something for the next generation.

And who were the blacks fighting to gain the rights they deserved? The democrats of course. Look it up if you don't believe me. And as far as Bush/Cheney having an distinguished/undistinguished record for 4 years. Would you be happier if like Kerry they served 19 years and only authored 5 bills including one to save the dolphins? Why are you guys such pessimists about the war in Iraq?

Fascism- a political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts nation and race and stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, sever economic and social regimentation and forcible suppression of opposition. Any questions??

What we are dealing with is the middle ground of a fascist state. We have had the burning of the Riechstad on 9/11/2001. With the, we can control him, elite pulling the strings of propaganda not knowing that they cannot control the furher but that they and only they will make money we are on the long terrible march to the dustbin. PetroDollars will soon become PetroEuros. We will be much as the Soviet Union was in the late 1980's, a hollow super power. The only difference will be instead of a man of peace we will be lead by a man of hate.

The theocracy that we are now entering is as Marx stated the opiate of the masses. Why would else would they vote for something that is clearly against their interest? Just as any drug addict will do anything to get his next fix. The theocracy is the sop or the velvet on the iron fist that will make itself known only after it is too late.

Or could it be that the majority of Americans think you are wrong and that Bush is doing a good job? No I am sure that with your superior intellect and firm grasp on reality you couldn't confuse fascism with democracy. I am sure it is normal for most Americans to associate the terrorist attacks on 9/11 to the burning of the Riechstad just like after the attack on Pearl Harbor turned easy going Roosevelt into a fascist dictator. Oh thats right, he is the one who helped defeat the fascist dictators.

Pete, dear, you are ignorant of history as well as being a general, all-around jackass. Go back to the bridge before daylight comes...

Emma what part of history am I getting wrong? John Kerry's five senate bills? See Factcheck.org. Or dispelling the belief that Bush is a fascist? And I though Democrats liked Jackasses. Isn't that your mascot?

this nation is a hopeless mess. more "citizens" believe in the virgin mary than evolution. this will not turn around in our lifetimes, if ever.

Peter... Now there's a descriptive name if ever I heard one. You DICK! The "majority" of "Americans" don't think His Holiness, Lord Dubya is doing anything that could be remotely considered as a "good job". Where do you get your false info from, Rush, Sean and Anne? Try reading an unbiased newspaper once in a while instead of just re-spewing their crap.

For your edification, the "Dixie-crats" that you so conveniently refer to as "Democrats" were nothing more than a bunch of disgruntled Confederate losers and KKK members who hated everyone and everything except their own Aryan kind. They promoted their Anti-Republic, white-racial supremecy theories throughout the "bible belt" and rejected pro-Democratic ideals. Now that they've jumped ship to the RNC, you and the rest of your fascist kind will fit right into their mold.

This is a good idea.

Notice all the frantic post-election pushback on the idea that the gay-marriage amendments saved Bush's bacon? We could hardly do better than P O’Neill did.

Basically, the religious right knows it won this election for Bush. Any effort to pretend otherwise is from other wings of the party, who know that it won’t do for them to be the party of gay-bashing for the next four years. Even though they are.
