Thank a Christo-Fascist today

As other countries recruit high-caliber scientific talent due to the dim-wits running INS, and have populations more interested in science than science controversy, look for whole areas of our technological leadership to erode under the watchful eye of the 1600 Crew and it's special rightwing branch of theological morons.

In a referendum on Sunday, Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a law that allows medical research on stem cells taken from human embryos but bars cloning. Other European countries have adopted more liberal laws.
Watch Europe and China for the next big innovations in biotech. Our scientists will be fighting to prove that Charles Darwin once actually lived and visited the Galapagos.

I know. There are people in this country who seem to think there will be an acute shortage of suitably educated janitors in the future. Their kids will really clean up! (Sorry, but I couldn't resist.)

This ought to be more of a wedge issue than it is. The pro-business Republicans ought to realize the religious right is just as willing to sell out the economy for their beliefs as the far left-wingers are. Maybe more so.

Indeed.

I enjoyed the story of the South Korean woman whose paralysis of decades was cured by embryonic stem cells.

Now, I can't wait for someone to cure Alzheimer's using them.

Me, well... I'll just enjoy the slow crippling effects of Rheumatoid Arthritis and take the drugs they throw my way - some of which work wonders.... most of which are useless as tits on a boar hog.

Did I say tits? Whew. Good thing Asscroft is gone.

I am a strong advocate of science... count me in with both the late Carl Sagan and Isssac Asimov!!! It is embarrassing to me that I live in a country as superstitious as this one. We have recently lost our top dog status in astronomical research to the Europeans (can't have that Big Bang nonsense challenging creationism, you know). Does anyone else feel that we really are losing our status and are slowly sliding down in every category except militarily (which the AWCBs see no problem in throwing money at the military/industrial complex and the war profiteers and calling it 'patriotism'). As a military retiree myself, I know that we need to shift much of that money from dubious projects that seem to only enrich (Star Wars comes first to mind) to direct support of the troops (equipment that is maintained, works when called on, and protects lives) and their families.
