They don't heart Vets

From the Actions Speak Louder Than Words Department:

The AWCB's in charge of the House Criminals have decided to boot Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ) from the chairmanship of the House Veterans Affairs Committee. Why? Seems that Rep. Smith actually wanted to help Vets.

Smith, his tie loosened and his face grim after Wednesday evening's leadership meeting, was resigned to ceding control of a committee on which he guided many laws that increased GI benefits, improved veterans' health care and fattened their pensions and survivors' payments.

"I poured my soul into this," said Smith, 51, a Mercer County Republican who won a 13th term in November. "I will emerge stronger. I fought on principle and conviction that we never leave any veteran behind."
...
Veterans groups, including the American Legion, lobbied House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., and other lawmakers to keep Smith, saying he was a valuable ally to the nation's 26 million veterans. But their efforts failed to sway House leaders who have been rankled by his complaints that GOP budgets were too stingy on veterans' programs.
...
Though his anti-abortion views meshed with GOP conservatives who control the House, Smith was not afraid to depart from his party on pivotal issues. He was the first Republican to back the creation of the Sept. 11 commission over the objections of President Bush and other Republican leaders.

Smith voted with fellow Republicans 77 percent of the time last year, compared with Buyer's 96 percent.

Notice of course, that the decision to remove Smith was being made by Chickenhawks. Loyalty, Loyalty, Loyalty. To Codpiece. Unswerving devotion to the Cult of Fearless Leader. Nothing else will do.

Loyalty to Vets? Nah.

Comments:

Nothing the Bush neo-cons do surprises me anymore. From Alberto Gonzales trying to weasel his way out of responsibility for advocating torture of captured U.S. soldiers by his trashing of the Geneva Conventions, to a veteran-friendly Republican being dumped in favor of some Republican ideological purist who will probably now slash and burn his way through the Veterans Affairs budget.

I have a hard time believing any veteran, whether Democrat or Republican, believes any of the crap the Bush neo-cons keep spewing...except, of course, for the Swift Boat liars.

I'm an Air Force veteran. And I certainly don't believe anything those neo-con crap-shovellers either say or do. Too bad some U.S. military veterans, and even some on active duty, believed the crap last November and voted for Bush. Maybe someday they will have the dubious "honor" of turning to the Veterans Administration for help...only to discover that Bush and his neo-con pals have gutted it. Of course, the veterans who voted for Bush probably won't need the VA and it's services because they all are in the top 1 percentile of wealthiest U.S. citizens. Hahahahahaha, choke, gag.

Jo we need to start the primaries ina southern state. It will force the repubs to fully codify the southern strategery.

That way instead of having to defend alternative rights or urban issues, the tables are turned and the Dem base revitalized.

Once the fundies have to base pander in blue states the bad aftertaste will solidfy the seacoasts and save a lot of Dollars for Dems who can then eye the flyover purple regions.

As for this loyal republican being ousted a chair of prominence for veteran support, well if Mr.McCain will take his panties off and fight for the legacy of trutbusting Teddy this wouldn't even be an issue.

The only reason he let self get slimed- Arthur Andersen robbed chruchgoers of millions in his state under his watch.

Getting churches to ponzi/pyramid and even tie in some underwritten property/bond ordinances statewide before getting Enroned by the account scam artists.

On a statewide scale, to the tune of over 60 million...

McCain probably took lobby money from them and feels he's in their pocket. It is the only possible solution to why a guy who fought and paid like few have would let his legacy get sullied by the pathetic neocons.

It should be a rally cry to wedge the RNC as well. FREE JOHN McCAIN!

I'll take a loyal honorable opponent in McCain over the entire neocon cabal of poisoned posturing partiot fake-outs any day.

Remember a coalition of the honest can still stonewall AWOL's supposed man-date.

Lowest win percentage by an incumbent ever. Behind in the electoral count until Ohio was declared. Take off the velvet gloves and fuckin' fight these wimps. They will fold.
