Sick of it

Yo. This one goes out to all my fellow vets. The "Blog of the Year" dissed President Jimmy Carter, a vet and an honorable man. I don't know about you, but I have now become officially as hell sick of right-wing too-busy-to-have-served punks calling me and those I respect, terrorist-loving lefties. What are we going to do about it? Suggestions welcomed.

For my part, I was thinking that we can start by pointing out that those men and women of the Boomer Generation and slightly younger who sat out the Cold War in the comfort of our shadows must be commie-lovers. Yup, Lovers of Lenin all. Otherwise why were they not willing to stand on the walls to keep the heathen commies penned up within their own borders? Why? Because, by using the same logic that they use to conflate us with the likes of such miserable people as Osama, they loved Brother Joe Stalin like a sibling.

Think about it, Doughy Pantload is 35. He was of perfect age to have enlisted when the Warsaw Pact was still a factor in RealPolitik, as were David Horowitz, Hindrocket et al (their on-line bios below make no mention of military service)

John H. Hinderaker is a lawyer with the Minneapolis law firm Faegre & Benson. For more than ten years Hinderaker has written with his former law partner Scott Johnson on public policy issues including income inequality, income taxes, campaign finance reform, affirmative action, welfare reform, and race in the criminal justice system. Both Hinderaker and Johnson are fellows of the Claremont Institute. Their articles have appeared in National Review, The American Enterprise, American Experiment Quarterly, and newspapers from Florida to California. The Claremont Institute has archived many of their articles here.

Mr. Hinderaker lives with his family in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Harvard Law School. He can be reached by phone at (612)766-8430.

Scott Johnson
Scott W. Johnson is an attorney and senior vice president of TCF National Bank in Minneapolis. For more than ten years Johnson has written with his former law partner John H. Hinderaker on public policy issues including income inequality, income taxes, campaign finance reform, affirmative action, welfare reform, and race in the criminal justice system. Both Johnson and Hinderaker are fellows of the Claremont Institute. Their articles have appeared in National Review, The American Enterprise, American Experiment Quarterly, and newspapers from Florida to California. The Claremont Institute has archived many of their articles here.

Johnson lives with his family in St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the University of Minnesota Law School. He can be reached by phone at (612) 661-8879.

Paul Mirengoff
Paul Mirengoff is an attorney in Washington, D.C. He is a 1971 graduate of Dartmouth College and a 1974 graduate of Stanford Law School. He has two daughters and lives with his family in Bethesda, Maryland.

Paul supports Everton FC of the English Premier Soccer League, as well as the Washington Redskins, the Washington Wizards, and the University of Maryland basketball team.

and numerous others.

Sure they never (well Horowitz was probably the exception) had the chance to cover themselves with glory, blood and medals in the rice paddies of SE Asia, but they took no other chances either after 1975, like walking a post on the 38th Parallel or in Europe, they deployed aboard no ships to the Med or WestPac. So, they were objectively pro-communist. They loved the red menace. Loved it. Because they never wanted to stand up to it.

Perhaps they hated America during the Cold War, and showed it by refusing to defend her. Commie-loving traitors.

Am I saying that these folks are actually traitors? No. But neither am I a traitor, and neither is Jimmy Carter or any other American who disagrees with their views. That's one reason I served, because of my belief that every American has an equal right to be right and to be wrong. I did not serve to one day turn my country over to loud-mouthed self-absorbed reactionaries who want to dishonor me and those who believe as I do by calling me a traitor for not sharing their worldview.

I would love to see Mr. Hindrocket walk right up to Jimmy Carter and call him a traitor to his face. He doesn't have the guts.

Comments:

Jo, some copy/paste troll showed in dKos with this stuff.

I googled up his site. He was calling Carter the worst POTUS ever and trying to blame him for Cambodia(among other things).

The gay journalist scandal shows how Rove orchestraes a slime campaign using a few blogs he sponsors with RNC supporters (Arkansas Project) and the talk radio crews pick up the ball from there.
"Jimmy Carter: Our Nation's Worst President

Mr. Carter should be proud of his own presidency, when he stood by and allowed the Khmer Rouge to slaughter millions of Cambodians without lifting a finger or even sending a nasty note. He saw that there was no support for it and decided that his political future was more important than the live of a bunch of dark-skinned people in a land far-far away. He saw himself more as a group therapy facilitator for America than a leader, and acted accordingly.

Carter promises not to rest until it is safe for dictators to kill as many people as they want without interference and thinks the way to improve things is to funnel more money into corrupt dictatorships so that the elite can fatten their Swiss bank accounts.

Jimmy, I knew you were worthless as a President, but I am amazed at how you have managed to go beyond worthless in the last 24 years. That anyone would listen to this crackpot is frightening.

The bum doesn't have enough moxie to post his name at eschaton. Google his quotes and you'll get his site, if you can stomach such. He's a veteran it would appear as well.

These people all come out together- there a Republican PAC(cpac) meeting in DC Wedensday, Cheney and Rove spoke and will be on CSpam.

Some of the dKos readers went. They were even courting bloggers- you will see a plan to come out on every front and push every agenda forward. They're hoping the dissent implodes under volume of traffic.

Majore media is part of this. Donaldson, Buchanan, Rove, Coultier.

The same wingnut I heard running his mouth about Ted Kennedy being a traitor will spill this load outta his mouth in yahoo sports chat if I go there this week...

*showed up in atrios*
I try and link my research into Dkos since they scrubbed the sports forums I write at of my posts in whole or part, the entire politics forum gone in the west coast site.

Anyways I run a file at Kos and have to send the posts to self in entirety to make a log.

PS- Negroponte is in to go for Venezuela.

Jimmy Carter validated their democratically chosen nationalized reform leader after his second election and a viscious recount campaign effort.

Condie wants their oil, she was an exxon board member. Negroponte knows how to run coups and coverts. The media has to discredit Carter any way possible to remove the perception of legitmate democracy in Venezuela.

Yer right, Jo.

They use forums like this, because there is no law nor jurisdictional guidance over it's content.

None of them would have the balls to say that to President Carter - you or me for that matter, in our faces - because I believe Mr. Carter would probally rip them down a few notches verbally.

Meanwhile I'm quite certain you or I would be ripping pieces of their body off, and beating them with the bloody stumps, after verbally berating them. I swear to God, I've have my fill of these cocksuckers.

Remember, if you feel the need to carry a baseball bat in your vehicle, always carry a glove, cleats and a couple of softballs to make it look good.

That's great, Barndog. You talk about how much you hate what Republicans have to say and that they are hypocrites. You want free speech, yet you make innuendo about beating people with whom you disagree with a baseball bat? Talk about the epitome of hypocricy. So, every single person who you find offensive, you're going to beat them with a bat, huh? That says all I need to know about what kind of person you are - you want to live in a Stallonistic society where people aren't allowed to have differing views. Please, move the fuck over to Iran, fall in line with the government there, and beat the shit out of people who disagree with you and the government.

I just love shutting up these right wing know it alls. Had one at one of the bars I frequent, he told me I did not know what I was talking about, when I was explaining the Muslim cultures in Iraq to a friend, and that I should have served. My friend kindly informed him that I was a veteran and that I was a former intelligence analyst at NSA. The guy shut up and left.

Why am I telling you all this bull crap, because once people know who I am and my expertise, they begin asking questions, and begin opening their eyes. Let us find ways to open people’s eyes. One way is through the technique of web logs but most people that follow Bush and his minions do not own computers. We have to come up with other means and now you have me thinking about how, thanks!

Hmm, didn't Gerald Ford hold the presidency for something like a year and a half - two years after Nixon was driven from office? Seems to me that the worst part of the Cambodian nightmare was over by the time Carter took office.
Blaming Carter for Cambodia's genocide is kinda like blaming Clinton for 9-11. There's really not much evidence for it.

One thing you already know Jo: pick your battles. Historians will better be the arbiters of Carter's worth. Hell, Brezenski's (sic?) efforts began the final implosion of the USSR, and Egypt's govt has been out of the Kill-Israel loop for awhile, with fair credit to Carter.

But we fight the battles going forward, not rising to the bait of pundits who waste ink writing about 3 decades ago when there's atrocities occurring daily. Fire back the best, most creative and dismissive insult once, just to let them know how pathetic your view of them is, then let it go.

Discourse is a waste on people too insolent to witness the blood flowing at their feet. Our arsenal is best spent changing today and tomorrow; yesterday can't be changed.

What a fucking moron.

I'll make you a deal - if you can kick my Marine ass to Iran, I'll move there. Just make sure your health and life insurance is paid to date before you come to play.

I'll disagree with my fucking government any goddamn time I want to, you fascist asswipe. I paid with my soul sacrifice for the right, just like every Veteran has.

The reverse commie angle is silly since 'wingers have a God-given lock on commie-hating and would justify all manner of evil just root out a commie and kill it. Nah, not gonna work. The coward angle is more promising, if these bilge brains actually cared about sacrifice. Nah, they're not cowards because they didn't run away from the fight; rather, their absences shows how little they cared. It simply wasn't on the radar given that these self-righteous leeches had more important fish to fry - humping for their careers in government, law, finance, journalism. I mean for a bunch of yahoo egoists, who's more important than me, myself or I?

And its their nest-feathering careerism that put them into the positions of power today where they can cast down their righteous judgments.

And despite the delicious image of these bad boys and girls getting the joe pesci treatment, well, thats much too violent. And would just feed their bizarre sense of persecution.

Nah, I favor the politics of personal destruction. If you dig deep enough we'll find these people pretty much are part of the Gannon paradigm, off-hours perps and perverts of all sorts. Think Gingrich's abandoning wives when they become ill. Think O'Reilly's fascination with phones and falafels. Think the fat fucks love affair with pills.

If we dig we're gonna find that the chickenhawk m.o. is lyin', cheatin', stealin', humpin' etc.

These rightwing creeps remind me of the Brit mp in John Major's govt who was their leader on family values and who had a thing for a mastubatory orgasm while wearing women's tights and engaged in self-asphyxiation. It killed, dontcha know and revealed the inner crud of conservatism.

If we continue to fire back with facts, reputable facts, it does a hell of a lot to silence some of these assholes. Every single time we find erroneous bullshit being spewed by these chickenhawks, we need to back it up and call them the liars they are.

My dad voted Bush this past election and because of information I have been sending him, now says that he may have voted for the wrong person. My mouth hit the deck. The best part is that my Dad is big into God and all that. Absolutely priceless what happens when we pull together in a concerted effort to expose the truth instead of more of Rove and the raving right's lies.

The submarine named after President Carter was christened today. Admiral Stansfield Turner presented, Carter passed the cup to the man who set watch.

Awe inspiring, the look on every sailor's face there was of pride, knowing theirs was a legacy of ethics and integrity to uphold. That for one of their own.

Viewed the replay, finished while typing this. Goosebumps.

Thank you Jimmy Carter, Stansfield Turner, all past and present who serve and protect our Colors.

CD Ward:
If right-wing whackos on some other blog are calling for every liberal to be beaten and killed, go tell them to fuck off. Better yet, tell me where the website is and I'll do it. It's ridiculous that people in this country advocate violence against other Americans because of who they voted for in the November elections. That includes you Barndog. Two wrongs don't make a right. I'm sure that if you're a former Marine, you could kick my ass. But, that doesn't give you the right to advocate beating people with baseball bats who don't agree with your political views. You are free to disagree with Bush, Clinton, whoever, and you can voice your disapproval. That's great. But, what you need to not do is threaten violence against people with different political views. That's not what this country is about. That's what Iran, N. Korea, and Cuba are about.
Barndog, as a Marine, you fought to ensure that the people of this country would maintain their way of life, and I - along with every other person in this country - applaud you for it. You, of all people, should know and appreciate that points of view differ in this country. You risked your life so people could have differing views, and express those differing views. But your first post sure makes it sound like you want to beat and kill everyone who disagrees with your point of view.
Moderate Man: you don't sound so "moderate" if you think that every person on the right is a "right-wing chicken-shit".

RR are you truly as dense as you attempt to appear? Barndog, Jo, myself and other veterans are incensed by being called traitors because we choose to do our civic duty as civillians with the same zeal we took to our military duties. The suggestion is not to beat every one who voted republican with a baseball bat but, if someone is stupid enough to get in the face of this 10 year navy veteran ('73-'83), this 6'5" 250lb Harley riding, gun owning liberal and call him a traitor, yea, they get a well deserved ass whipping. If it turns out they call me a traitor and they did not serve and I find out about it, the beating they are likely to take is going to get painful.

Of all the reasons we had for our service in the military, I dare say that none of us did it so that we could be insulted by weenie assed, worthless pieces of reich-wing crap.

Fuck 'em. Beat 'em like a rented mule

What am I being dense about, Cafkia? If somebody wants to call you a traitor, then they will have to deal with the consequences. That's not the point that I was making. If you all want to criticize the government, go right ahead. It's your right as an American. What nobody has a right to do, from the left or right, is threaten people. That is what Barndog was insinuating. He's sick of those "cocksuckers", to use his word, who express disapproval or question men like Jimmy Carter. Personally, I don't have a problem with Carter. But, if somebody wants to criticize him, then they should go right ahead, without fear of being beaten with a baseball, as Barndog has threatened. What's ironic is that you are all free to criticize the government, Republicans, me, or whoever, but you don't want to hear or accept criticism directed at you or your political affiliation. I'm perfectly fine with reading about how Bush has screwed the economy up or whatever else you want to say. I may or may not agree with it, but I can at least acknowledge legitimate points made against his administration. It's not perfect, Bush isn't perfect. But guess what, nobody is and every president makes mistakes. Unilaterally blaming Bush for 9/11 is like unilaterally blaming FDR for Pearl Harbor. Sure, both men deserve some of the blame for their failure to act of intelligence - but neither can be completely blamed. I'm able and more than willing to admit that Republicans, Bush, etc aren't perfect. I'm glad that a second major party exists in this country to counter-act and balance out the other. I only wish that you could all acknowledge that every single thing that Bush or Republicans do is not evil while everything Democrats do is the greatest thing on earth.

CD Ward: Even though I get the feeling that you're a closet Conservative from your post about the 10th Amendment, I'll go to that website you've given and tell the right-wingers to shut up about beating liberals. I hope that will show that I'm serious about this bs of threatening the "other side".

RegRdr,

What you don't understand is that the people who start wars are not the same folks who fight them. If you think that anyone who has worn the uniform will sit by and be called a traitor or unpatriotic by somone who has never found time or the guts to sacrifice for this country then you got another thing coming. I don't care what side of the aisle they sit on. It burns me up to see our troops be put in harms way by those that were too busy or had other priorities (insert standard Chickenhawk excuse here).

Those Swifties and their kind were taught the same core values, honor, brotherhood etc. that the rest of us veterans were. To see that used for a smear campaign for political gain is shame and they should be ashamed because they have turned their backs on the very thing they claim to uphold and hold dear. It is especially sickening to see it done to another vet.

Where were the current crop of "War Leaders" during Vietnam or the Cold War? I floated arouond the Med and North Sea for 14 months, where was Karl Rove? Condi Rice? The military's been taking females for a long time now. Bush as a "War President" - hell he didn't even keep his pansy ass in current flight staus - I don't think so.

posted by: Plane Capt. on 02.22.05 at 12:58 AM [permalink]

I do understand that vets deserve the utmost respect from those of us who have never served. And I promise, I have nothing but respect for those of you who have. It infuriates me to hear people talk badly about men and women who have served or are serving - because I know that it takes a ton of guts and courage to sign up and go into a foreign country and fight with the possibility of dying. But, Bush was elected CIC, like it or not. Clinton was in the same boat as Bush with the military. Surely you can't tell me that men and women serving while he was in office respected or liked his orders to go into places like Somolia. US men and women died there also and they were ordered there by a President who never served in active combat.

CD Ward: Just so you know, I went to the LGF site yesterday, typed in a response under the Ward Churchill blog but I didn't have a password. I tried to get a password, but the server was down, so I'll try again when I have a chance. Just so you know, I looked at several blogs and couldn't find a single post that advocated indiscriminantly beating liberals. The best I could find was people threatening ole Ward.
