House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.), struggling to protect his Washington power base as legal and ethical issues fester, also has to watch his back on the home front.
...
DeLay garnered 55 percent of the vote in the November election against a relatively unknown Democrat, an unusually modest showing for a veteran House member who is one of the most powerful politicians in Washington.
A vulnerable Delay is a good thing. It would be ironic if he were soon to need consulting advice from Dan Rostenkowski on selecting a defense counsel, and adjusting to life-after-Congress as convicted felon, rather than an "elder statesman". I'm wondering how many folks from "K" Street would show up in Sugar Land to chat about old times over a sweet tea if he were to make the frugal Preznit Fry'em pardon list?
