The Jeebis Preznit Lo, and the money changers were blessed. Remember when Preznit Incredibly Incoherent claimed that jesus was his most favoritist filosopher? Apparently the upcoming bankruptcy bill and massive money-changer giveaway is different from his favorite filosophers other missives. My guess: the Old Testament Banker & Usury Association just did not have the kind of lobbyists they needed to keep them pesky debtors down.
The Senate Judiciary Committee -- propelled by a unified Republican majority and with little public debate -- voted 12 to 5 yesterday to approve legislation backed by the credit card industry and opposed by consumer groups that would make it harder for consumers to wipe out debt through bankruptcy. The bill, which would be the most significant change in bankruptcy law in more than a quarter of a century if adopted, now goes to the full Senate. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) has said debate could begin within 10 days. Republicans and many Democrats believe the bill eventually will pass -- its chief sponsor, Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa), yesterday predicted a final vote of 80 to 20 in its favor -- but only after a drawn-out and heated discussion on the Senate floor.
All you Iowans who need to file bankruptcy (not that you'd ever actually want to) because of job loss, medical bills, a death in the family of the primary wage earner, remember to show Chuck Grassley your love at the polls. He loves you; but he loves the money that the banks and credit card companies are infusing into his campaign, causes and probably eventually into his pocket way more than some destitute Iowan whose last resort are the Federal Bankruptcy laws. Iowans are a proud lot, self-sufficient, honest and they love their neighbors...so what happened with Chucky? Money. And the fact he doesn't care for Iowans or any other Americans as much as he cares for his corporate sponsors. Preznit Corporate $2 Whore is expected to sign the bill with great relish as it pays back his "base" in more ways than one. I guess he might want to reread this before signing.
"And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple. And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves." Mark 11:15-17, KJV
Or something like that. I guess that Preznit Nitwit can invoke his god to fool the gullible, ridicule the rest and use the bible as his shield from reality. Typical christo-fascist as far as I'm concerned.... Den of thieves indeed...or as Prezint Prostrated4Dollars calls them, "his base". Let's start a card-burning movement. Let's all toss our credit cards into the bonfire. What will happen to our economy if we do this? Well, we probably wont spend as much foolishly as we now do with credit cards. Young kids who are provided credit cards would no longer face eternal debt. The financial institutions issuing these cards would go bankrupt themselves. Remember in "The Graduate" way back when, when the future was "plastics"? Well, this is the future. It's time to turn the clock back. Credit card companies give urerers a bad name. Bring back the loan sharks.

Hey I like that Wikipedia. But instead of Debtors prison, more like debt bondage. Read the link on that page. People are a resource to be exploited like oil and gas.

For every Iowa farmer there are more plasma-screen-owning numbskulls who want everything but can't pay for it, and wants no responsibility.

the mere fact that a president can invoke the name of the ghost in the clouds, and get 20 million idiots to vote for him is ample evidence that this country just isn't worth bothering about.

Charging interest is an abomination. The bible did speak about a two tiered society of such nature as we're creating. But since the devlopment of the religious class and its need to be insulated from the indebted working class the Bible kind of changed its tone and texture to such. A patrician class that wrote/recorded the sacred texts became an extension of the rich who paid/underwrote such.

The best take on government- false scales are an abomination. Its context was justice.

Senator Grassley was also responsible for getting the ridiculous Iowa Rainforest project in Coralville attached to an appropriations bill a while back after it was kicked out of the energy bill. And they like to call themselves "conservative"....

OInce they stop the revolving door of credit card/bunkruptcy/credit card that renews the target market least likely to spend conservatively for high line retail, cars, appliances... well then the economy will really tank.

the new bankruptcy code will make people WHO HAVE THE ABILITY the repay their debts repay those debts. for those people who cannot afford to repay the debts, then they won't. people who file for bankruptcy simply because they don't feel like repaying debts will not be able to hide behind the old laws anymore. it's about personal responsibility. people that make $20,000 a year shouldn't drive a $30,000 car.

i will be the first to admit, however, that credit card companies and other people who lend money need to be regulated more, but it still comes back to personal responsibility. don't buy something that you can't afford. it's that simple. if you lose your job and can't repay loans, then the bankruptcy code will still protect you, but when you get back on your feet and have the ability to repay your loans, then you will do so.

once again drunken cheerleader, brilliant comment. your intellect never ceases to astound me. 51 million of us "idiots" voted for bush, just a little more than 20 million. and if this country isn't good enough for you to fight for, there are plenty of other countries where you can live if you are that miserable here.

if i've counted correctly, about 1/2 of the democrats in the senate voted for bankruptcy reform. surely not every one of them sold out?? maybe, just maybe, making a change made sense, even though the "idiots" and the moron president proposed the bill.
