See wound. Ignore. Rinse. Repeat.

Another Annals of the Stoopid speshul...instead of issuing first aid kits to soldiers in the field, i.e. the Mess in Mesopotamia, the Neo-Con warmongers are holding up said first aid kits pending a redesign of the carrying pouch.

Two senators have sent a letter to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld asking why U.S. troops in Iraq are operating without inexpensive tourniquets that can potentially save lives.

The letter from Sen. Richard J. Durbin, D-Ill., and Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., obtained by ABC News, refers to a report in Sunday's edition of The Baltimore Sun that there has been a delay in getting new first-aid kits containing tourniquets to the troops.

"A number of our bravest military personnel have reportedly bled to death on the battlefield, and the experts have determined that putting a tourniquet in the hands of every soldier is a vital life-saving measure," the letter states. "Holding up the fielding of a life-saving medical kit simply to optimize its carrying pouch suggests a mindset oblivious to the wartime needs of our soldiers."
...
The Sun article said doctors and Army medical officials estimate as many as tens of thousands of soldiers are in combat without the simple medical devices, and that some bleed to death from injuries that would not otherwise be fatal if a tourniquet were applied. It also said the Pentagon has not placed an order for first-aid kits with tourniquets although the Army has approved their use, and the delay may have to do with the development of new training manuals and a pouch for holding the tourniquet.
...
"Why do we continually find ourselves behind the curve in this war, scrambling to provide basic equipment and protection to our troops only after too many of them suffer grievous injuries?" the letter states. "What are you doing to change the thinking within the Pentagon to better anticipate equipment needs, to ensure that when a need is identified it is filled in an expedited fashion, and to ensure that Guard and Reserve units receive that equipment at the same time as regular Army units?"

I guess that what the 1600 Crew is probably doing is figuring out which contributor deserves the contract to produce those pouches, so they can be rewarded for their fidelity.

Meanwhile, it's only war. And not a single Neo-Con child in sight...so why bother with tourniquets for the "little people"? Let them use rags!

Comments:

Nope, no neocon kiddos over there sweating and/or bleeding. Military service is for the the "little people" as you say. Besides, those priviledged kids have other committments much like cheney and chimpster had during 'Nam.

I'm surprised Rumsfeld didn't say that he wouldn't waste his beautiful mind on such matters.

Iraq is a cynical boondoggle that has resulted in a successful looting of the US Treasury. The coming draft and the coming wars in Syria and Iran will be more of the same.

ya well Coach, Fendi, Prada, and Gucci haven't come through with their patriotic contributions to this war! How unAmerican. How hard is it to weave a flag onto a stylish $1200 dollar tourniquet bag?

Now it's time for the suck-ups to make up lame excuses for this bullshit.

Support the troops?

Like hell they do.

There must be rubbish heaps the soldiers can scrounge through to find and make their own tourniquet supplies. You go with the army you have *and* let them have free access to all the rubbish they can find.

It was my impression that the new uniforms had several advances, including some sort of built-in tourniquet in each appendage. Am I wrong on this?

It seems like the Bush party commits some indecency every day, and has for going on five years now. But each time I've thought that I'd finally seen the worst these vicious incompetents had to show, they shock me again with a new degree of previously-unimaginable shamelessness, greed, or idiocy. Sometimes all three.

And now they've outdone themselves.

Can this possibly be true? No First Aid kits for the troops because the Bush party doesn't like the way the cases look?

That is just too much to imagine. How can they do this stuff? How do they face themselves each morning?

Who needs a Tourniquet when you can get Purple Heart Band-Aids from the RNC????

Power of "a Tourney" like Cheney and Bush who had to lawyer up for possible treason over the Plame outing? Oh wrong kind of tourney.

Sorry to post this here but you have a link to Marine Girl's site, "Across the River" but she has disappeared it seems. Anyone know what happened to her site?

I agree with the Yankee in Exile. The carrying pouch is being held up because of a dispute over what fashion statement it should make.

Personally, I think it should have a big bulls-eye stitched in sequins on it with the words "I fought in Bush's Halliburton War, and this was all I got" on it.

And, of course, our soldiers must have different colored carrying pouches for the different terrain over which they fight: camouflage, desert, jungle, inner-city house-to-house fighting. Details, details, details.

When I served in the U.S. Air Force, I knew that everytime I dressed in my khakis or dress blues, I was making a fashion statement. Some people's uniforms screamed "Lifer," but my fashion statement was more subdued and said "short-timer just marking time until I get my final orders to get the hell out of here."

Anyway, for Rumsfailed to hold up First-Aid Kits because of a carrying pouch just shows how incompetent the old fart really is.
