Media of the Stupid

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole dead Pontiff white smoke thing has been going on for centuries, right? The way that the media is reporting it makes it seem like it's a new idea, perhaps one that a priest came up with following a night of carousing on the Via Veneto with an altar boy, or something.

Responding to Pope John Paul II's request, the Vatican will depart from centuries-old tradition by ringing bells in addition to sending up white smoke to signal the election of his successor.
...
John Paul will be laid to rest with a white silk veil on his face, a rosary in his hands and his body clad in liturgical vestments and the white miter. Following the centuries-old custom for burying popes, his body will be placed inside three coffins — wood, zinc and wood — a design meant to slow decomposition, the Vatican confirmed.
...
"This time we plan to ring the bells to make the election of the pope clearer," he said, recalling wrong calls in past elections. "This way even journalists will know," ...
Ah, so even our lady-of-the-loons will know...although calling her a "journalist" is stretching the point like an elephants birth canal at the moment of delivery. I guess she'll just have to be sober enough to know those bells are not from the effects of the previous nights chilled Stoli and beer chasers...

So where is Father Guido Sarducci when you need him anyway?

Gee! How predictable. Acuse an inocent of the crime of others. Again.
Another bunch of Pope bashing comments.
I suppose EVERY liberal blogg has to show religious hatred in order to continue to belong.
So many bigger fish to fry in your own corrupt governement.
Sad.
Buy a mirror guys, cause I'm sure no protestand pastor ever did anything similar.
Oh yeah, they prefer to watch, isn't that right?
I'm donne with this blogg.

Leela, any ol' cleric can molest a child, but it takes a very special kind of cleric to oversee the largest continuing criminal enterprise in history devoted to molesting children and protecting the perpetrators of that molestation.

I find it a tragedy that the US is flying its flags at half-staff for the Pontiff, but not for those souls coming back from Iraq in flag covered coffins.

What I want to know, when the Dalai Lama passes on to his next step, will the flags fly at half-staff, too, or would that piss off the Chinese too much?

I'm sick of the media Death Watch 2005. They can show photo after photo of the dead Pope, but they can't show flag covered coffins of US soldiers...what is wrong. I am sure the Pope wouldn't even approve.

What Lex said. As a recovered catholic, I don't have anything bad to say about the Pope.

But hey - gotta keep that collection plate in them churches longer, ya know. 501(c)3 non-profit ya know, no taxes and all.

You know, fuck it. I'll fly my flag upside down and half staff when my dogs die.

At least they'll get better treatment than my returning dead Brothers & Sisters.

For balance they should get call-in psychics to talk with the pope's spirit before burial.

And for independent fairness of viewpoint someone who claims he's im purgatory until burial ceremony finishes.
