One Mouth. Two Sides.

Preznit Equine Stroker yesterday:

The House passed a bill on Tuesday to expand federal financing for embryonic stem cell research, defying a veto threat from President Bush, who appeared at the White House with babies and toddlers born of test-tube embryos and warned the measure "would take us across a critical ethical line."
Unlike of course, the "critical ethical line" that was crossed resulting in over 1600 American and an estimated 100,000 Iraqi dead. Yeah, that's some culture of life.

Comments:

Yeah, and the talking point seems to be "people who have moral objections to stem cell research shouldn't be forced to support it with their taxes."

I strongly object to the taking of thousands of innocent lives in Iraq, even if the ultimate goal was laudatory. And I don't want my taxes going to support it, either.

Unfortunately for you, Satan, your party isn't in power in the White House, the House, or the Senate. So, while you might not be in favor of the war and you may hate your tax dollars going to fund that war, there's not much you can do about it except have your party win something in 2008. Until then, Republicans run the show - and control the purse strings. That's called democracy.

The conservatives speak of compassion yet allow thousands to die when perhaps stem cell research may save them

Why is it that these so called pro-life religious conservatives want to kill people that are already alive, death penalty, the war in Iraq, and zero gun control regulations? Hey, is this Bush's solution to the Social Security crisis, make sure no one lives to be sixty-five?

Democrats sure seem to have a problem w/that dang "post" icon. It's not a voting booth in Palm Beach. Click on it once.

Our anonymous friend is unfortunately correct. I make this exact same point to conservatives who complain Social Security is taking their money. That's the way the democracy cookie crumbles.

I'm not sure what his point was, though. I don't think SLR was advocating the overthrow of democracy or anything.

The point, Tony, was that there is no point complaining about something that you can't control. And I don't know very many Republicans - OK, I don't know any Republicans - who think that the idea of Social Security is a bad idea. It clearly needs to be fixed - or at least tweaked - but in general, it's a good thing to take care of elderly citizens who can't necessarily take care of themselves.

Someone please refresh my memory about when a government takes your money at gunpoint and says they might give some of it back if you live to be 65 equates to democracy.

The Prez spoke at the commencement of an evangelical college on Sunday. Nice P.R. except a photo of a graduation cap made it in the NY Times. On top it read "who would Jesus bomb?" I think it said it all.

Now you know one -- Jay. Plus there's the President, and a bunch of his buddies.

I've been paying for schools since I was 16, yet I have no children. Same deal.

I had this same discussion with our office dittohead the other day. I asked if the "I shouldn't have to pay for stuff I don't like" principle applies to other forms of government spending, like roads and bridges, or war, or public education. He admitted it doesn't.

I understand if you don't like paying for old people, but please don't try to wrap it in a bogus principle.

Tony:
Bush has said time and time again that SS, as an idea, is a positive thing and something that is necessary. He wants to try to fix it. Maybe privitization isn't the best way - maybe it is. But he's not advocating abolishing it. And please, don't post something to the effect that "privitization will essentially abolish it." It's pure speculation, one way or another.

You're kidding yourself, my anonymous friend. The GOP won't rest until we're back in the 1920s.

Oil depreciation allowance of 27.5% plus costs in addition to the cap on imports to retain higher prices. Tell me again about paying in a fair share?
You want to tell me the one fool who found no oil in Texas at taxxpayer expense when his broke well before a bin laden bailout , that same chickenhwak, should pay his taxes share?

Really save the outrage.

By the way if you don't want Social Security funds to underwrite the dollar in Bonds go ahead and tear off a quarter of every cash bill you have along with the few hundred or thousand year you'll get back and spend your stack of half-assed paper since Social Security serves you no purpose.
