Last Throes Watch

Ah, Dick. Apparently there are some folks in Iraq who did not get the RNC/1600 Crew blast-fax'd happy-talk SITREP on Iraq.

Sunni Arab leaders said today that they were withdrawing temporarily from the writing of the new constitution after the assassination of two colleagues, a move that threatens to delay the drafting and undermine the legitimacy of the American-backed political process.
Not that the new draft constitution looked like it was going to be any great sheiks anyhow, given that it was marginalizing women and looking seriously like it was being dictated from, oh say, Iran.

Remind me again what this waste of my tax dollars and the lives of our soldiers was for. A big-ass Lie? Yeah, thought so.

How does one answer that question to a returning soldier? I can't wrap my head around it. There is going to be a large chunk of them that flat out will not be able to accept that their friends died and were wounded for ... well, nothing at all really. Same shit we went through already. I sincerely hope that twice in a half century is enough.

Some returning troops that I've talked to don't even want to start thinking about the "Was it worth it?" queston. It's too disturbing at this early stage of being back, fresh from the mess in Mesopotamia. In my humble opinion, there is nothing in Iraq worth fighting and dying for--nothing. Nothing will be gained from this except a generation of men and women who will suffer scars and nightmares for a long time.

Nephew had the same sentiments upon his return, not really liking being back either. Think he's debating whether or not he wants to be lifer.

He doesn't fit back here, there is some kind of funk he's going through. Can't really say what it is, it simply is. Budweiser isn't washing it away for him either(notfor lack of trying).
