More Parents

From the family of one of the Ohio Marines killed when Preznit Cant B. Bothered went on vacation:

The day after burying their son, parents of a fallen Marine urged President Bush (website - news - bio) to either send more reinforcements to Iraq or withdraw U.S. troops altogether. "We feel you either have to fight this war right or get out," Rosemary Palmer, mother of Lance Cpl. Edward Schroeder II, said Tuesday.

Schroeder, 23, died two weeks ago in a roadside explosion, one of 16 Ohio-based Marines killed recently in Iraq.

The soldier's father said his son and other Marines were being misused as a stabilizing force in Iraq.

"Our comments are not just those of grieving parents," Paul Schroeder said in front of the couple's home. "They are based on anger, Mr. President, not grief. Anger is an honest emotion when someone's family has been violated."

A 1600 Crew mouthpiece had this to say:
White House spokesman Allen Abney declined comment other than to refer to remarks Bush made last week.

At a news conference Thursday, the president said: "Pulling troops out prematurely will betray the Iraqis. Our mission in Iraq, as I said earlier, is to fight the terrorists, is to train the Iraqis."

Well, that's what either Karen Hughes or Karl Rove wrote for him to say...what he said that is much more to the point was:
"I think it's also important for me to go on with my life, to keep a balanced life."
I'm pretty sure that given what this young Marines parents have said about how their late son felt, he'd prefer that Beloved Leader spend a little less time clearing brush and a wee bit more time straightening out the fucking mess he's made. Not that that's ever going to happen.
The Ohio couple have long opposed the war and tried to dissuade their son from joining the Marines, but have made their views public only since his death. On Tuesday they urged Americans to voice their opposition to the war.

"We want to point out that 30 people have died since our son. Are people listening?" Palmer asked.
...
Their son went to Iraq filled with optimism about the mission but gradually became disillusioned with the war's progress, his parents said.

"He said the longer it went on the less and less worth it seemed," Palmer said. "They're not doing the job right now. It's not the fault of the troops. It's the fault of the plan."

So, here we have a Lance Corporal, USMC, on the ground and KIA in Iraq who could see the "It's the fault of the plan". Young Marines can be pretty smart, as he obviously was.

I wonder how the right-wing slime machine will now begin to demonize him and his grieving family? After all, they have now spoken out against Infalliable Beloved Leader.

Comments:

You know, it's not that the smears on Cindy Sheehan aren't going to stick -- in certain circles they are. But the uglier the whole thing turns, the worse it makes Bush look in the eyes of the average Joe for being dominated by it and unable to shake it. Say what you will about Bubba, he lived for this kind of stuff & would've quickly turned the whole thing to his advantage.

Probably something to do with being poor but ambitious as opposed to rich, arrogant and entitled.

I'm sure that the families of all those killed and wounded in this farce would like to "go on with their lives and keep a balanced life" too - but it's might be "a little difficult" without loved husband, father, mother, wife, brother.... lost while protecting the profits of the chickenhawks!!! Don't believe that was what they signed up to protect and defend!!!

I've even had people tell me that Cindy hates America. Surprisingly, none of them are willing to sign up to ACTUALLY help our troops, much less work to get them out of harm's way.

by the way, very nice blog you have here!

Let's see, the smear campaign against Cindy Sheehan now says she is too polished in her media and PR savvy to not be an operative for the left. Actually, being that impassioned about something that got your child killed will make anyone stick on message very clearly. Especially when they have very clear goal like just sitting down and talking with the person who sent their child to die for no reason.

Yep, I might be pretty clearly focused as well.

I wish the balanced of Mr. Bush's life were to spent doing other than risking our troops lives!

Or, learning to think.

Jo, if you've not been to this side, got there! It hurts not to laugh.

The words of his useage show no compassion whatsoever. Bush needs 'to get on with his life' and find balance?

Sounds like he tore a page out of the AA handbook and put it in a grief counselor's handbook and now sees himself as the one deserving pity. Such a fucking little man syndrome napoleanic narcissicsm blerb stain he is.

The use of those terms, no doubt his handlers/Karen Hughes words, is an affront to anyone who has lost and questions why.
