Newt-erd

This is almost enough to make me smile on a cool autumn Friday morning.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Thursday he might run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 — unless some candidates promote his ideas.
Gee, same Newt who was one of the most reviled figures inside the beltway when he finally left Washington lo, those many years ago? Same Newt who had his ass handed to him by the Big Dog over shutting down the government in the depths of winter?

A possible winning ticket: Gingrich/Lieberman...a blow-hard and a puritan moralist all in one. Toss in Bill Bennett somewhere in there and you get the All-American Hat-Trick of Incomptant Governance.

Good call there about Lieberman. I'd love to see the Patriotic Democratic Party freeze Lieberman out of future strategic planning conferences, the way they finally did with Zell "McCarthy was right" Miller. (I think that should become a standard meme in progressive blogging, BTW.) Just as I invariably term the forces of evil as the "Fascist Party" I think it's gonna be the "patriotic Democratic Party" from now on.
