When a "D" begets an "F"

The 1600 Crew, never a group to miss the opportunity to put Politics ahead of Policy went to the mat to give Preznit Utterly Corrupt a campaign talking-point on his "Medicare Reform", has demonstrated how much they are in the pockets of their biggest contributors with their "reform". They have managed to fuck over a whole generation of Americans, "fixing" a problem by destroying an institution. Gee, this makes reforming FEMA look like a relative success.

On the seventh day of the new Medicare drug benefit, Stephen Starnes began hearing voices again, ominous voices, and he started to beg for the medications he had been taking for 10 years. But his pharmacy could not get approval from his Medicare drug plan, so Mr. Starnes was admitted to a hospital here for treatment of paranoid schizophrenia.
...
Most of the residents are on Medicare, because they have disabilities, and Medicaid, because they have low incomes. Before Jan. 1, the state's Medicaid program covered their drugs at no charge. Since then, the residents have been covered by a private insurance company under contract to Medicare.

For the first time, residents of Dayspring Village found this month that they were being charged co-payments for their drugs, typically $3 for each prescription. The residents take an average of eight or nine drugs, so the co-payments can take a large share of their cash allowance, which is $54 a month.
...
Douglas D. Adkins, executive director of Dayspring Village, said: "Some of the pharmacists have been saying, 'No pills unless we get a co-payment.' Well, how are these people going to get the money for a co-payment? They don't have it."

So, remember in order to hand the 1600 Crew their campaing talking point about "Medicare Reform", their allies in Congress that lived on boats provided by campaign contributors (Cunningham), and were on the payrolls of well-heeled lobbyist (Representative #1) were essentially the votes that put this reform over the top in the extra-legal House vote. It took the threatening of an elected representative to get this legislation passed, that and the purchase of other elected officials know to be for sale, with shiny trinkets and baubles.

But, it's OK, because they get to practice what the feel is their "god-given" right (and we all know that they believe in god, since the never, ever fail to mention it, right?), pissing on the heads of their fellow Americans not as fortunate as themselves. While they repeat to themselves, "It's OK If You Are A Republican" so they can sleep well at night.

I'm guessing that the next group to be "excluded" from the pre-staged, taxpayer-funded "Pleasantville Town Hall Meetings" of Beloved Leader will be anyone who looks like a Senior Citizen eligible for Medicare benefits. Or would I be wrong?

Oh, speaking of "god-given rights", I guess even after death it's OK to hate; a group of whatevers plan to "protest" at the funeral of a gay soldier who was killed in Iraq. I don't know how much more I can take, but a group of veterans plan to protect the family at the funeral.

Yes, it's January 2006 but I guess the disabled and poorest seniors will have to "wait another year" before they can maybe pay less for prescription drugs. But the problem isn't because of the tax cuts that the 1600 Crew didn't even notice on their own returns, this time it's Katrina.
Today's Boston Globe had a photo of the republican bumpersticker that says it all (p. A10-not online):

ONCE COMMITTED, ALWAYS
A LOYAL REPUBLICAN!

Hello Joe. Sorry I am off topic. Wondering about your background. What is your bio? What did you do in the Navy? Do you do any fund raising for Dems? What else do you do to stay politically active?
Would love to see posts about all the OIF Veterans the democrats are running in 06. Also keeping an eye out for wingnut attacks on peoples service...we are sure to see a lot of "swiftboating"..which I do believe the public is sick of.
One vet to another... thanks.
