Remember kids:

Guns don't kill people - Vice Presidents with guns do..

But.. he didn't even look like Dan Quail -

Cheney was reported saying.. "bastard didn't cough up enough cash in 2004 - this was the last option on the table..."

If only Cheney would have gone to Vietnam... he would have been a better shot -

"we shoot 'em here, so we don't have to shoot 'em over there..."

And the best one....

"At least the Doctors got to him, before Cheney could gut him..."

Thanks - you're a great crowd... I'll be here all week.

Try the veal. Don't forget - Tip your waitresses and bartenders.

Maybe I'm tired, maybe it's that the Dick.Cheney story is just so weird, but I do wonder how this is all going to play out over the next few days--will the story just disappear except for a few laughs over the next couple of days, or is it a symbolic part of the unraveling of the obviously criminal 1600 Krew, or conspiracy ideas about who will replace the Snarling One when he's forced to resign in disgrace, or.... Well good night and good luck.

Well, they can always blame Clinton for this and I'm sure someone already has (although I won't be checking up on it).

Weird, indeed, but some small part of me is pissed that he didn't finish the job of removing a lawyer from the planet... More seriously, I can't wait to see how Brother Rove spins this one. Will the shootee be somehow swiftboated?

Note in the news story that the lawyer was at fault for approaching from behind without announcing his presence.

I've never hunted quail but I do skeet shoot, and a fundamental rule is you always stand behind the shooter, not to the side or even behind to the side, since he is going to be moving his shotgun as he tracks the target, and his eye is focused on that.

This is a one-day story and fodder for Jay Leno, that's all.

Bean-
No, the man who was shot is not at fault. It is the responsibility of the shooter to ensure that he/she is not going to shoot at a person or anything else, other than their intended target.

Most hunters, especially bird hunters do not take a shot if it is below the horizon, and don't generally shoot behind them, unless they know the area to be clear, which since most folks don't have eyes in the back of their heads, they don't do.

I have hunted game birds and will let the bird go by if I can't (1) shoot it above the horizon or (2) it is outside of the "zones" in front or to the side that has not got another hunter in it. It's not worth hurting someone.

Bwana Dick violated the NRA hunter safety guidlines, big time.

Nice talking points recitation though. Welcome back.

Bean,
Glad to know some people like to shoot skeet--you definitely become good at shooting skeet doing that. So alright, knowing even what we have been told up to now, would you truly like to have the Veep, in the condition (whatever it was) he was in last Saturday at the canned quail shoot, next to you on a hunt? I mean even if he has a mobile medical unit with him?

bean -

World's Dumbest Fucker Award for 2006!

How does that feel?

Don't worry, we don't want your speech. If we do, we'll pull your mouth off our dicks.

Have a nice day. Somewhere else - preferably Outer Mongolia.

I don't think it is fair to attack bean. He was merely pointing out general safety rules for shooting skeet, situational awareness. I look at this incident as only an unintentional accident and nothing more. Next...

Sure, just like Hugh Hewett saying that the getting shot IN THE FACE with a 28 gauge is comparable to getting hooked with a fly fishing fly.

That fuckin' Kool-Aid must be wicked. I'm thinking Owsley would want that recipe.

And, the hallucinations last - like forever man.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 78-year-old lawyer who was shot by Vice President Dick Cheney in a hunting accident has some birdshot lodged in his heart and he had a "minor heart attack," a hospital official said Tuesday.

Weren't we just told that he was "peppered" with pellets? And the the wounds were just "superficial"?!?!
This might stop it from being "Late Night" fodder for a while...but it sure doesn't look like a one-day story anymore.

I have to ammend my comment: Why did the White House take so long to release this to the press. IF the Cheney team withheld alcohol/drug testing by local law enforcement for several hours after the incident, or if law enforcement/medical response teams treated this episode any differently (for political reason or pressure) than any other similar shooting, then I do think that this turns on a lie.

Couldn't it also qualify as obstruction of justice?

Hmmm...well now that the "Swiss Bikini Team" rumor is starting to swell, does anybody remember the duck hunting trip that Cheney took with Scalia a few years back? If i remember correctly, several stories covering the trip described "female companions" on the trip. None of which were their wives.
Does Cheney have a history of hunting trips with other women? Was alcohol regularly involved in those trips as well?
I read a post somewhere that asked why Pamela Willeford hasn't been asked to give her account of the incident (since she was standing by the side of the Vice President when this happened). Armstrong claims she saw the accident, yet she also states in another article that she saw the SS unit rushing to the scene and thought that DC may have been having heart trouble. Clearly, she didn't see it happen. She was 100 yards away in a parked car and she says Whittington didn't annouce his rejoining the group. She was in a car 100 yards away! How would she know if he said anything?
