David Ignornat-atius hearts McCain

It's hard to believe, well no not really hard to believe that Ignatius writes in the Washington Post that John McCain would not "sell his soul" to become President. Yeah, right. What, giving Jerry Falwell a reach-around was what, political foreplay?

Part of McCain's appeal is that he seems to straddle such partisan political calculations. He's the victim of torture who opposes torture, the man caught in the "Keating Five" ethics scandal who insists on reform, the critic of Iraq policy who insists that America must win the war, the conservative who is beloved by moderates. A McCain candidacy, if he makes the formal decision next year to run, will be rooted in his image as a man of principle. But it will also be something of a balancing act -- one that the candidate himself is likely to find uncomfortable.
McCain sold his soul or whatever he had of one when Rove smeared him all over South Carolina like Nutella on White Bread in 2000. Almost everyone who calls themselves a Democrat knew that McCain was a "Reagan Republican", but one who would understand the value of discussion and nuance, not blunt force and demogogery, like Beloved Leader and the 1600 Crew.

I never had any illusions about McCain's politics in 2000, but I tried to ensure that he'd be the republican nominee to face Gore a battle that might have had a far different outcome in many ways than what we see from recent history.

McCain did the next worst thing in modern politics to getting caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy: he sucked Jerry Falwell's dick at a time when he needed to look like a moderate republican to Democrats who might have gotten on board with his campaign (not me ever again). He's proven who he wants to lie down with, now he can snuggle up to them and see how far a reach-around will get you in the morning.

Say it like it is!

I used to at least respect the man....

I love the brutal truth of the DV Blog. (!)
Yea, I used to have a modicom of respect for McCain, but his blatant pandering to Falwell and Co shows his true colors. He really isn't a moderate repug who we could trust, and evidence is building that he's willing to sleep his way to the top. This was his first casting couch session; There will sure to be many more to follow.

I stopped respecting the man when he gave Bush that obsequious hug after Rove attacked him, his military record, his sanity, and his family. That is what I call pathetic.

Think the Republicans will try to play his war record? Remind anyone who tries this that it was the so-called Swift Boat Vets for Truth that made it their point that service in Vietnam did not matter. If it did not matter in 2004, why should it matter in 2008?

He needs to start sucking some junkie cock.
The dittomonkeys refer to him as a liberal. So if he makes the junkie happy and the junkie says nice things about him, the ditto monkeys will love him.
They seem to believe what he tells them to believe.

I don't respect him anymore. He'd sell his Mom if he could turn it into a campaign contribution.

I don't know if I completely agree with your assessment.. I think John McCain hasn't softened at all, I just think he knows what he has to do to actually win the nomination this time.

Who says he isn't just giving lip service to people like Falwell?

Like the African folk tale about the croc and the scorpion.
It is simply his nature. He is guy with a great back story who picks his spots to build up his bi-partisan credintials when it suits his agenda.

I have never been fooled by this guy.

I lost all respect for the man after he stood silently when the Bush crowd was doing a number on his fellow vietnam
veteran Mr John Kerry. The only i can say about him,if i can remember my latin correctly:"VANITAS VANITATIS ES OMNIA VANITAS.."

John McCain had balls at one time. Otherwise he wouldn't have survived the crap he did as a POW. He let saint Ronnie and bush the first cut them off when he decided to join them. He let bush the lesser do it again and then rolled over for him to have his belly rubbed.

Sorry John, you won't be getting my vote.

John McCain may not be anti-gay, despite his suck-up at Liberty U., but he may very well be something even worse: A candidate who will pretend to be as anti-gay as he needs to in order to get elected. As despicable as the views of Jerry Falwell and his ilk are, at least you know where they stand. If McCain runs for pres, he will be all over the politcal map, depending on his audience at the time. If he's looking for a campaign theme song, "Blowing in the Wind" would fit perfectly.

Oh, how it behooves us to be true to ourselves even if we are pursuing political office. Giving a big bear hug to W one of the most disgusting pictures I have ever seen. And then to be vilified by Rove and just shrug it off. It's so sad after the terrible suffering he endured during the Vietnam war.
