Because we need a police state, this freedom and liberty thing is overrated

Well, golly. It looks like the racist fuck congresscriminals in an effort to change the discussion from corruption and incompetance have succeeded in some part by flogging the bodies of the brown people from the south.

They want a "national database" of US employers and employees to make sure that everyone is legal. They want it, despite the fact that prototypes (beta tests?) have apparently got the same success rate as the strategic defense initiative's missle intereceptors.

A federal database program with a checkered track record could dramatically expand to affect every U.S. employer and worker under provisions of the sweeping immigration legislation being considered by Congress.

The program is intended to keep illegal immigrants from working in the United States and to discourage more from entering, but in nearly a decade of small-scale tests, it has had trouble distinguishing between those who are here legally and those who are not. Fixing it and rolling it out nationwide could cost more than $1 billion.

Get that? One Billion dollars? And that's the estimate. You can be dead-sure that the contract will be awarded to the crony du jour and the costs will go up from one billion to at least 10 or 20 billion and take years.

Meanwhile, to combat the inevitable delays look for "Tex" Sensenbrenner to roll out the National ID program.

Welcome to the Soviet Union, courtesy of your friendly neighborhood republican party. Comrade.

Hello Comrades,

These are scary times we live in. The gov't tracking it's citizens with ID cards and eavesdropping on calls and our e-mail is a slippery slope. What's next? Neighbors spying on neighbors and detention kamps? Oyyyy... God help us.

Yeah, well, let's have even more business done off the books and under the table. No, that won't lead to any problems at all.

Idiots.

Interesting article. Scary. I think you hit the target when you mentioned a guess about how much it would end up costing.

As far as "What's next?" goes, I wouldn't be surprised to see some form of youth program implemented in local schools, churches, and communities, that would be described as some type of Good Citizen group, under the management of the Department of Homeland Security, that would turn youth into little informers and spys...reporting on what they think might be "unAmerican" activities or "illegals".

They already have several of those databases, all they need is the permission to merge them. You have the SBA, The IRS, and SSA, and many more such titles. To check for illegals, look for bogus #'s in the SSA, cross relate the number to the business owner (IRS and SBA), and then send out the BP to take the business owner to court for their fine. But all they really have to do hqave a reliable rule in the USA that identity theft is illegal, enforce it with stiff penalties, and enforce it.

I regard your remarks as prophetic. I even know which contractor will get the job. It will more than likely be SAIC, who have established a record of failure and expensiveness worthy of a contract from the Bush administration. They have had plenty of them already.

You know, this Constitution dealie has served us well for 230 years. But a handle of Saudis manage to smuggle boxcutters in their carry-ons, and it all goes out the window?

They won't enforce it! It ain't in their financial best interest to enforce it! The "business owner" is OUR collective government! That is at the CORE of every serious problem we've had with this scam that passes for an intelligent model of government. We have to wake up to that reality! Many posters accurately claim that our "leadership" is scum of the earth, then expect them to act inconsitently with that reality. They must laugh at the vanity of HOPE for this sick, co-opted version of democracy when the proverbial "they" DON'T give a rat's ass about you unless you're in A banking business. Thomas Jefferson, amoung many other sharp cookies, have repeatedly warned us of this shit. and we still don't want to GET IT

The EVIL that men do lives on and on!

oh well...pass the beer nuts
