Strategery

Billmon on the upcoming Rovian Strategery (or how to play the cocktail-weenie press corpse):

To be sure, you know this won't stop the machine from simply making shit up -- kilowatt hours of available electricty conjured out of thin air, paper battalions magically transformed into crack commando units, pins on maps marking pacified villages where insurgents held sway only days before. If there is one thing that any bureaucracy knows how to do, and do well, it's spit out the kind of statistics that can make defeat look like victory, at least for a while.
Look for those talking points to be coming from a major media outlet and any right-wing blog near you very, very soon.

One of the thnings which seems to characterize the neocons/rethugs is the short -term nature of their thinking. They seem to be doing the equivalent of living from quarterly P&L statement to quarterly P&L statement, and never wondering where the whole enterprise should be in five or ten years.

Billmon's quote encapsulates this sort of thinking, which seems to boil down to: "Oh God, please just let us get past the First Tues in November '06". What about after that?

These boys have been running across the pond for years now, but like all pond runners, they're about to find out that when they slow down, they fall in.

And slow down they have -- if they think Iraq isn't going to be whole orders of magnitude worse in '08 than it is now, they're more self - deluded than even I think they are.

You gotta hand it to the Republicans, they know how to milk. Especially 9/11 to justify their fuckup in Iraq. But I keep getting haunted by nagging questions: Why are the Vice President's friends making a killing in Iraq without risking getting killed in Iraq? When will the day come that the rich and powerful and their kids start enlisting in the 'noble struggle' in droves? Why aren't the rich at least pleading that, instead of taking tax cuts, that the government take that money and take real good care of our troops? When will the rich and powerful really show that they really give a fuck about the troubles this country has? Why isn't Saddam actually charged as a conspirator in the attack that took place on 9/11? Why do the ones (guess who) who cry so much about cutting and running have such a long track record of cutting out when their time came? I understand why Asshole (Bush) doesn't want to cut and run (legacy, anyone?), but for the Republicans to chirp the same old crap to earn cheap votes? To hell with them!

When Rove details plans of the gay terra training camps is when they've married the shark.

Oh, that was Jeff Gannon staying all night at the White House. Hard to keep track of the terrorists because so many of them work in the oval office these days...
