I love the smell of bullshit in the afternoon

So Preznit Born-again Deke has unsurprinsingly vetoed the stem cell legislation, thus ensuring the disposal of millions of blastocyst Americans in medical-waste company's furnaces and disposal facilities. I guess that at 150 cells per Blastocyst American he's making progress one not-quite sentient American, like himself, at a time.

President Bush vetoed a bill for the first time today, using his constitutional power to reject legislation passed by Congress that would expand federal research on embryonic stem cells, a step he said would be crossing a “moral line.
Glad he sees such bright "moral lines". I guess that ought to be a real comfort to any innocent by-standers sold to US Forces in Afghanistan and locked up in GITMO for the last five years.

Preznit Merkel Massager seems to be able to observe "moral lines" well whenever there's a vote to be pandered, or a constituency caressed. Observing "moral lines" in doing the right thing, eh, not so much.

I guess that scientific advances will have to wait until we can afford to pay for them as a nation anyhow. That ought to be sometime around the yeat 2525, if the Republic is still alive thanks to the short-sighted policies of the republican governance corps.

It's interesting that he signed it in secret; no photographers, no video cameras, no handing pens aroung to smiling fat rich old white men in dark, ill-fitting suits. Have you ever known little Georgie the spoiled brat to not want to perform in front of an audience before?

This is a bill that could have saved lives, so natually our own favorite Adorer of Death was thrilled to sign a veto.

But he didn't want the Great Unwashed Peasantry to see how little he cared about them.

This is another one of his actions that he should be ashamed of, and it appears this time he was ashamed, hence the secrecy.

If it ever comes up in the future that he becomes afflicted with leukemia, or Hodkinson's Disease, or lymphmatic cancer, I hope whatever deity might possibly exist will allow me to laugh in his face as his body slowly spasms into immobility.

I think there may be an ulterior reason other than catering to the wingnuts. Somehow there has to be a hidden (money) interest in this story. Either the Bush family, Jim Baker, or the House of Saud have a dog in this hunt. By keeping the feds out, they decrease their risk and increase the profits. Money always talks with this crew. The rest is nonsense, and the smoke screen keeps the masses away from the reality.
Everybody wins except the public.

Reagan played politics over scientific research to appease religious folk and paid a price by dying from something that he, far more than most people, was in a position to help. (People who supported this veto have less sympathy from me when one of their own come down with a health issue that could have been helped by this research. I know that sounds crass... but so do they.) It really is sad that the religious fanatics torpedo good science in the name of their superstitious beliefs. Bush claims that they should not have to help pay for something that goes against their beliefs. Let's take W at his word. What does the government spend money on that goes against YOUR beliefs? Ask your Republican congress critter to help cut funding for it because it offends you. If they hem & haw ask them why they won't honor your beliefs!!!

Big Pharma can't make money if we start curing the diseases they make billions creating and treating.

That's why step cell research will NEVER be legalized in this country.
